Flandriencross: Mathieu van der Poel wins fourth cross race in a row

Mathieu van der Poel

Cycle cross: Mathieu van der Poel is unstoppable. The Dutchman won his fourth cyclocross race in a row yesterday, Sunday. He remains undefeated this season. His German teammate Marcel Meisen was also able to celebrate a victory.

Mathieu van der Poel confidently wins in Hamme

The competition in cyclocross still has no chance against Mathieu van der Poel (Corendon-Circus). The Dutchman also won his fourth race of the current season. After his successes at Super Prestige in Ruddervoorde, In European title in Silvelle and the World Cup races in Tabor the 24-year-old also triumphed in the second run of the DVV Verzekeringen Trofee. At the Flandriencross in Hamme he came 40 seconds ahead Lauren's Sweeck (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal) and 64 seconds ahead Tim Merlier (Creafin – Fristads) rolled across the finish line. Eli Iserbyt (Pauwels Sauzen – Bingoal), who just a few days ago was able to follow Mathieu van der Poel to the last meter, remained below his own ambitions in fifth place, 70 seconds behind.

As in Tabor almost 24 hours earlier, the women also won in Hamme Anne Marie Worst (777). She repeated her success from the previous year. Also had reason to celebrate Marcel Meisen (Corendon-Circus). The German won the EKZ CrossTour race in Hittnau with ease and thus celebrated his fifth victory in this series of races – a record! He also prevented a double whammy for the Van der Poel family. Behind him, 37 seconds behind, was second with David van der Poel (Corendon – Circus) the 27 year old brother of dominator Mathieu van der Poel. Dieter Vanthourenhout (Marlux – Bingoal) from Belgium completed the podium.
