After a two-year hiatus, the Red Bull District Ride is back in Nuremberg. Due to its uniqueness, the event achieved absolute cult status among drivers and spectators, and the District Ride is also a sporting flagship for the city of Nuremberg. The city recently confirmed that on September 04th and 05th some of the best slopestyle riders in the world will fly through Nuremberg's old town during the District Ride 2020.

The first Red Bull District Ride took place in Nuremberg in 2005. It developed steadily and is now a true cult event for the slopestyle elite and their fans. At the fifth and so far last edition of the year 2017 more than 80.000 spectators were there, turning the old town into a real witch's cauldron. This helped the drivers put on a pretty impressive performance on the course through Nuremberg's old town and makes it a real spectacle for spectators. This course was designed by the Swede Martin Söderström in 2017, who, thanks to his many years of experience, ensured the right flow and spectacular obstacles. Unfortunately, hardly any information has come out for the District Ride 2020 and we can only assume that the start of the course is again at the Kaiserburg and that it will lead through the old town past the historic town hall to the main market. It is still unclear who will be responsible for the design of the route next year.
In 2017, the District Ride was part of the FMB Diamond Series, making it one of the highest categorized slopestyle events of the year. We hope that this will be repeated in 2020 and that action at an absolutely world-class level awaits us again. Of course, special hopes are placed on our German figureheads Erik Fedko and Lukas Knopf. Both have an incredible amount of potential and have already been able to show how much they are capable of at a number of major events. Unfortunately, I can't tell you at the moment whether they will be part of the party in 2020, but I believe that neither of them will miss the cauldron of Nuremberg. If you want to learn more about the Red Bull District Ride, there is a small video series on YouTube.
From my own experience I can only warmly recommend you to visit this event. The Red Bull District Ride is also worth a visit for readers who have no connection to slopestyle, because when else do you get the opportunity to see the best riders in the world flying through an old town over almost vertical ramps. When I visited in 2017, admission was of course free of charge and next year I will look for a place on Nuremberg’s main market, which is bursting at the seams.
