Cycling: Just before Christmas, disturbing news reached the cycling world. According to the latest research by ARD, two other German professional cyclists are involved in the Erfurt doping scandal. One of them is said to still be active today. However, no names have been mentioned yet.
It's about offenses from the years 2012 and 2013
(Not) a nice present - that expects two German professional cyclists according to the latest information from ARD. Yesterday, Sunday, Hajo Seppelt's doping department announced that two other German professional cyclists were said to be involved in the doping scandal involving Erfurt doctor Mark Schmidt. According to statements by the Munich public prosecutor Kai Gräber, these are offenses in the years 2012 and 2013 and two drivers who were or are active in high-class ProTour teams. One of those affected is said to be still active today – which greatly narrows the circle of suspects. However, names have not yet been published.
Operation Aderlass: Already 7 professional cyclists convicted
The only affected and known German is Danilo Hondo. The ex-professional drove for the Telekom, Gerolsteiner and Lampre teams, among others. In addition, the Austrians became Stefan Denifl and Georg Preidler transferred, as well as the Italian Alessandro Petacchi, the Croatian Kristijan Durasek and the Slovenians Borut Bozic and Kristijan Koren.
Operation Aderlass began on February 27, 2019 in Erfurt as well as in Seefeld. Raids were carried out there on the fringes of the Nordic World Ski Championships due to suspicion of blood doping. Athletes then confessed or were convicted by investigators based on evidence. According to some sources, over 40 blood bags were found in Erfurt alone. So far, however, only a few names have been mentioned. This could now change in the case of the two German professional cyclists, because even if they can no longer be prosecuted due to the statute of limitations, this does not apply to sports law issues.
