Advent calendar / raffle: The Italian cult company Fizik expanded its wide range of bike components with a completely new saddle series with two models - the Fizik Terra Alpaca X5 and the Gravity Alpaca X5. While the Gravita was designed for downhill use, the Terra is a saddle for all All Mountain and Enduro riders and is therefore a bit wider and more designed for performance when seated.
Fizik Gravita Alpaca X5
The newly presented Fizik Gravita Alpaca X5 is a downhill saddle designed to provide the necessary control for fast, aggressive descents. In close cooperation with the team drivers of the Santa Cruz Syndicate Racing teams and their mechanics, the innovative engineers from Italy developed a saddle that further increases control over the bike and is said to be almost perfect for use in gravity. With a width of 130mm, it offers plenty of freedom of movement and protects the inside of the knees and thighs with its beautifully rounded shape.
The rigid 7mm Mobius Rail, which was tested to the limit by Luca Shaw and Loris Vergier in the World Cup, provides the necessary stability, which can easily take even the hardest landings. Another plus point in terms of stability is the flex zone in the rear quarter of the saddle, which gives in slightly on contact. As soon as you have to go far behind the saddle on steep descents, this feature should make it easier to get back to the starting position. Another advantage of this flex zone is that the saddle is less affected by "seat burns" (contact between the saddle and the tire, e.g. on steep jumps).
The Fizik Gravita Alpaca X5 weighs 216g and convinces us above all with the high-quality construction and its functionality. It costs €79,00 and is only available in one size. We find that the Gravita Alpaca is a very interesting and inexpensive saddle for the gravity area.
Fizik Terra Alpaca X5
The Terra Alpaca X5 completes the series and its area of use extends to all full-suspension trail and enduro bikes. Due to its relatively wide, flat nose, it offers a great platform on steep climbs, which helps us to keep the pressure on the front wheel. In addition, there is an ergonomic bulge in the middle that reduces the pressure in the pubic area. In conjunction with the 145mm width, the Terra Alpaca offers a good compromise between freedom of movement and the necessary support to master even the toughest climbs.
The Fizik Terra Alpaca X5 also uses the 7mm Mobius Rail to ensure maximum safety and stability in this area of use. Of course, the descents of the trails were also considered during development, because a lot of value is also placed on downhill performance for enduro or trail rides. Here was also tight with the Santa Cruz Sandicate Racing teams worked together to get maximum performance out of the saddle. As soon as the seat post is lowered, the saddle acts as a control unit and, thanks to its ergonomic shape, ensures that the knee or thigh fits perfectly. All of these features, concentrated at 238g, are included Fizik Terra Alpaca X5 at €89,00.
