Cycling: John Degenkolb (Lotto – Soudal) will race in Paris – Roubaix in the future in the Degenkolb sector. It has been announced that the longest cobblestone section of the classic will be named after the 2015 winner.
Degenkolb receives recognition for the crowdfunding campaign
What an honour! A pavé sector near Paris – Roubaix is named after John Degenkolb. As the first professional from abroad, the German will bump over his “own” cobblestone section in the future. And this is not just any section. At 3.700 meters, the longest sector of the "mother of all classics" - previously known as d'Hornaing à Wandignies-Hamage - is to bear the name of the winner of 2020 from 2015.
However, the 31-year-old from Oberursel does not receive this honor because he was able to win Paris – Roubaix during his career. Rather, the organizers are honoring Degenkolb's commitment outside of his own race. As stated by VC Hornain President Vincent Talmasse, this is more of a tribute to the crowdfunding campaign. In 2019, John Degenkolb called on the internet to donate money to save the U19 edition of Paris – Roubaix.
