Fuji Bikes 2020: New bikes from E-MTB to aero racers

22 January 2020 by Michael Faiss

Product news: The new season is about to start and the manufacturers are presenting their 2020 model ranges - including Fuji Bikes. The US manufacturer with Japanese roots has innovations in all areas up its sleeve - from the e-fully Blackhill Evo to the SLM race hardtail and the Transonic aero racer.

Fuji E-MTBs 2020

There are two major innovations for the 2020 season with the Fuji E-MTBs. Blackhill Evo and Ambient Evo both get the new Bosch CX motor and with it the new, large Powertube 625 battery.

Fuji Blackhill Evo 2020

The presented for the first time two years ago E-Fully Blackhill Evo gets a technical and visual makeover for the 2020 season. The biggest innovation is certainly Bosch's new CX motor in all models and the larger Powertube 625, which is installed in all variants with one exception - only the entry-level model has to make do with "only" 500Wh. Three trim levels are equipped with the large-volume 27,5+ tires, but with the Blackhill Evo 29 1.3 there is also a model for 29er fans. The latter comes with 130mm travel, the 27,5+ models even get 150.

The price is attractive at 3.999 The top-of-the-line Blackhill Evo 27,5+ 1.1 model costs €5.199. It also comes with RockShox suspension and a Sram Eagle drivetrain. A positive feature: all models feature 4-piston brakes and large 203mm discs front and rear.

Fuji Ambient Evo

The hardtail counterpart to the Blackhill Evo, the Ambient Evo, also gets the new Bosch Performance CX motor for 2020. It is offered in two basic configurations, both of which are available with either the comfortable 27,5+ tires or the more propulsive 29 inch wheels. The forks of the 27,5+ models offer 130mm travel, the 29er versions have to make do with 10mm less. There are also differences in the batteries; the new, large Powertube 625 is reserved for the respective top models, which cost 4.399 (29er) or 4.499 (27,5+) euros. The cheaper equipment variants have the 500Wh battery on board, which should also have enough capacity for longer tours.

The Ambient Evo 29 1.5 EQP is a bit out of line, which is more in the SUV category and comes with a lighting system in addition to mudguards and a luggage rack. It is powered by the new Bosch Performance motor, which is powered by an external battery.

Fuji mountain bikes 2020

There are major innovations at both ends of the spectrum for mountain bikes this year: On the one hand, Fuji has given its noble SLM race hardtail a completely new frame, on the other hand there is also an exciting addition to the affordable fully range with the Outland 29 1.3 LT.

Fuji SLM

The three letters SLM have stood for the top race hardtail in Fuji's portfolio for several years. Nothing will change in 2020 either, but the Fuji SLM will be given a completely new frame for this season. This is of course made of carbon and is available in two versions: C10 and C15. The latter refers to a particularly light layup and in a medium size the frame weighs just 1.080g. However, this top model is only available as a frame set - all complete bikes, four in number, are based on the slightly heavier C10 frame; nevertheless, the top model SLM 29 2.1 with Fox 32 Performance fork, Shimano XT gears and DT Swiss X1900 wheels weighs well under 11kg.

Fuji Outland 29

The well-known Outland will remain in the range as an inexpensive entry-level fully and with the Outland 29 LT 1.3 it will be a completely new model variant with 150 or 140mm spring travel and modern equipment including a 1-way drive, four-piston brakes and a dropper post.

The new Outland 29 LT 1.3 has a good price/performance ratio and is directly "trail-ready" for well under 2.500 euros.

Fuji Transonic 2020

The already well-known top racer Transonic will be given a new frame in the coming season, which is visually and technically very similar to the Fuji supreme remembered, which came onto the market as a special women's racing bike in 2018. The aero racer was optimized with wind tunnel measurements - a result of which are, for example, the flattened seat stays and the self-developed, fully integrated aero cockpit. The frame will be available in two versions, but the super-light C15 variant is reserved for the top model Transonic 8.000, which costs almost 1.1 euros, and the frame set.

Low profile and integrated cockpit. This is how the Transonic wants to save valuable watts.

There is also good news for rim brake fans, because with the Transonic Rim, Fuji is one of the very few manufacturers to bring a completely newly developed high-performance frame for rim brakes onto the market.
