Vuelta San Juan #7: Gaviria confidently wins the final stage

February 3rd 2020 by Michael Behringer

Gaviria San Juan

Cycling: Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) claimed his third stage win at the Vuelta a San Juan. The Colombian won the last part of the tour with ease ahead of Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe). Leader Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) had a relaxed day, easily defending his lead in the general classification and thus being the winner of the Vuelta a San Juan 2020.

Gaviria leaves absolutely nothing to be desired

The last stage of the Vuelta a San Juan was once again reserved for the sprinters. So knew Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) already before the start that normally nothing will happen. The young Belgian can present himself as the overall winner Filippo Gana (Ineos) and Oscar Seville (Medellin) celebrate.

But of course the day's victory was still won. Here had once more Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates) the happier ending for themselves. It wasn't really a question of luck though, because the Colombian impressively demonstrated his strength and superiority. Although Deceuninck - Quick-Step the sprint for Alvaro Hodeg perfectly prepared, Fernand Gaviria ultimately won confidently. This also had to be Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) admit later in the interview.

Peter Sagan:
"I had Gaviria's rear wheel and stayed there until the finish line."

Fernando Gaviria wins the last stage of @vueltasanjuanok , his 3rd victory in this year's race. 👏 2nd place for Sagan, 3rd for Hodeg (Deceuninck messed it up again). Nando was clearly the fastest guy this week, great shape. 👍 #VueltaSJ2020 pic.twitter.com/LF0jiiAt3K
