Cycling: As announced today, Paris – Nice will end one day earlier than planned. And there are also hailing cancellations in other countries. There will be no race in Belgium until April 3rd. The Tour of Catalonia has been postponed indefinitely.
Paris – Nice does without the final stage
Only yesterday Christian Prudhomme assured the fans that the long-distance journey from Paris to Nice would not be prematurely terminated. But just a day later, that turned out to be wrong. The ASO had to bow to public pressure. As we now know, the Tour of France ends a day earlier than planned. The 113,5 kilometer final stage with start and finish in Nice will be omitted. The Bahrain – McLaren team is already no longer there. And yesterday the Italian Professional Drivers Association (ACCPI) appealed for Paris – Nice to be canceled immediately.
Statement from the Bahrain – McLaren team:
"Due to the ongoing restrictions on movement across Europe and the health of the entire team, this precautionary measure is a top priority."

Many cancellations: there are hardly any races
What began with races in Italy is now spreading throughout Europe. Because of the corona virus, almost all planned races for the next few weeks have been canceled in the past few days. This applies to the Ronde van Drenthe, for example, because the Dutch government bans sporting events with more than 100 people. Numerous appointments were also canceled in Belgium. The organizers had to cancel the E3 BinckBank Classic, Gent – Wevelgem, the Three Days of De Panne, Nokere Koerse, the Bredene Koksijde Classic and Dwars Door Vlaanderen. A decision by the sports associations states that no sporting events should be held until April 3rd. So this does not (yet) include the Tour of Flanders on April 5th. The Tour of Gila will not take place in the USA as planned. And there is also news from Spain. The 100th Tour of Catalonia - actually planned from March 23rd to 29th - has been postponed until further notice.
The statement of the organizers of the Tour of Catalonia:
“The race has been held every year since the end of the Spanish Civil War in 1939. We tried until the end to carry out this special edition of our race, but now the priority is the preventive measures and the health of the drivers and team staff as well as the public. The Volta will return and then run in the best possible conditions.”
