Cycling: The Giro d'Italia has already been postponed. Fans and organizers are also worried about the Tour de France. Now Matteo Trentin has published an interesting idea. So the Italian suggests simply organizing a grand tour through all three countries this year.
Trentin: "Start in Rome, transit in Madrid & final in Paris"
In times of Corona, all fans, riders and officials are thinking about the future of cycling. If no races can be completed in the coming months, the race calendar will be much too tight - despite an extension until the beginning of December. Therefore, Matteo Trentin (CCC) has now come up with something to satisfy at least all three major national tours. True to the motto: 3 in 1.
Matteo Trentino:
“Why not just organize a GrandTour this year? Start in Rome, transit in Madrid and final in Paris. The best at the start and a great way to unite people with a bike race after this terrible time. To make it clearer: Seven stages in each country, two rest days. All together on reboot. And back to normal business in 2021.”
Pinot resents a lost year
At the age of 30, Thibaut Pinot (Groupama – FDJ) wanted to make a big splash at this year's Tour de France. After his tragic end last year, he would have been one of the favorites this season. But now the Frenchman is struggling with the fact that in 2020 there may not be a Tour de France or a Grand Tour at all.
Thibaut Pinot:
"I'm in my prime. I'm 30 years old and at the top level. The tour may be rescheduled or canceled and that worries me. Because a year without a tour and without a Grand Tour is a difficult year. It's complicated when we only start serious training in early May to be ready in early July. We would be at 90 percent, but you have to be at 100 percent on tour."
Why not organize only one GT this year? Start in Rome, passing through Madrid, finish in Paris. All the best on the start and a great way to reunite all the people with a bike race after this horrible time! #3GTn1
