Emil Johansson starts the 2020 season with a win: Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle

March 11, 2020 by Andrew Waldera

MTB News: Emil Johansson wins the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle with two never-before-seen tricks and impressive trick combos. The young Swede, who won the Red Bull Joyride 2019 last year, is the only rider with a chance at the Triple Crown of Slopestyle 2020 after winning in Rotorua.

Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle

Without a doubt, Emil Johansson, who is suffering from an autoimmune disease, made the most of the off-season to prepare for the new season. Right at the start of the season, the young Swede put in a good performance and catapulted himself to the top of the field with a furious run. As the penultimate rider at the start, the Swede conjured up a phat trick combo on the line: 360 tailwhip to unturndown from the stepdown, truckdriver to opposing downside tailwhip on the first jump, followed by an opposing triple tailwhip and a double tailwhip.

With a Fastplant 360 and a Nolly 360 on the box, powerful style points were collected on the new feature, followed by an Opposite 360 to Opposite Barspin and a 360 Unturndown to Barspin. To top it off, the Swede performed a front flip and a spectacular 360 windshield wiper. With his victory at the Crankworx Rotorua Slopestyle, the 2017 World Champion and winner of the Red Bull Joyride 2019 has taken a first important step towards the 2020 Slopestyle World Championship title.
