Reading against Corona frustration: The bike books of the year 2019 are here!

17 April 2020 by the editorial office

News: Every year the bloggers of the network “The Wriders Club” (TWC) choose the best Bicycle books of the past year. Now the voting result is among the best bike books of the calendar year 2019.

"Four wins"

There were a good 50 German-language books on the subject of bicycles that were published in the 2019 calendar. Just in time for Easter, the winners in the four categories "Cycling Culture & Photo Book", "Travel & Route", "Novel & Biography" and "Service, Technology & Sport" have been determined. Countless vloggers, bloggers, podcasters, influencers and other content creators are responsible for the selection.

These are the four best cycling books of 2019

  • Peter Appeltauer: The art of recognizing a bicycle as such ("Radkultur & Bildband"): Literary non-fiction book dedicated to the more than 200-year history of the development of the bicycle. (ISBN: 978-3-9817893-4-8)

  • Daniel Lenz, Florian Summerer: Flamme Rouge – Only 1000 meters (“Service, Technology & Sport”): Heavy defeats, sheer horror, unbelievable surprises and sensational successes. In Flamme Rouge - only 1000 meters to go, various professional cyclists talk about their personal experiences on the last damn kilometer. (ISBN: 978-3-95726-039-0)

  • Marc Locatelli: The Night I Beat Eddy Merckx (Novel & Biography): By a stroke of luck, amateur cyclist Loki was allowed to compete against his idol Eddy Merckx in Zurich's Hallenstadion in 1978. A fictional cycling trip for young and old. (ISBN: 978-3-03731-193-6)

  • Jochen Mesle, Max Kroneck: Ice & Palm Trees – Over the Alps by Bike and Ski (Journey & Route): Exciting experience report about two skiers who face a bike and ski tour from the Alps to the Mediterranean. (ISBN: 978-3-73431-677-7)

A book against Corona boredom

"Cycling is a healthy activity, especially in Corona times. You exercise in the fresh air and strengthen your immune system. The goal is to get more people excited about cycling in the long term. The selected books are a good overview to give newcomers an insight into the fascination of cycling," says TWC founding member Gunnar Fehlau.

“Not only the bicycle, but also the bicycle literature is becoming more multifaceted year by year. With the bicycle book of the year, we offer a market assessment by connoisseurs, which is interesting, worth knowing and, above all, worth reading," adds Frank Gauß - Communications Manager at the EUROBIKE bicycle fair.

So right now the perfect occasion to give you or a loved one who is a bike enthusiast a small gift against Corona boredom.
