GCA League #2: Carstensen & Erath are happy in virtual Innsbruck

25 April 2020 by Michael Behringer

GCA LEAGUE

Cycling: The second race of the GCA league is behind us. Lucas Carstensen won again in the men's category. Tanja Erath won the exciting women's race.

Carstensen celebrates another victory

Also the second race of the GCA League won Lucas Carstensen (Bike Aid). This time the professional cyclists did five laps – at least virtually – through the city center of Innsbruck. After just under an hour, the men should again have a mass sprint. Despite a few attacks in the last few kilometers, no one in the first group was able to break free. This had already formed shortly after the start when the field was divided into two halves. It only got really exciting on the last kilometer when Patrick Haller (Leopard) dared another surprising advance. But the sprinters stayed alert. Johannes Herrmann (RUW) led the final sprint. But in the last few meters Lucas Carstensen (Bike Aid) managed to pull past and secure victory again.

Erath wins thrilling women's race

The women took to the track five minutes after the men. Unlike the opening race so they didn't all leave at the same time. A good decision, because the spectators could watch two races at the same time. And it was worth it, because the women's race was much more interesting than the men's. Because here there was a selection very early on. Tanja Erath (Canyon/SRAM), Romy Kasper (RNR), Kerstin Pöhl (TBSW) and Selma Trommer (4EST) were able to pull away on the first climb. Surprisingly, the chasing group was only able to catch up again after 20 kilometers. The drivers named tried again later. But again they didn't get away decisively. But they proved again in the final sprint that they were clearly the strongest. After a little more than an hour of hard fighting, Tanja Erath won this ahead of Romy Kasper and Kerstin Pöhl.

HERE you can soon watch the races on the YouTube channel e-Cycling TV Germany in Relive.
