Best Cycling Movies #4: hell tour

4 April 2020 by Michael Behringer

Cycling Movies

Cycling films: Today we are devoting our entire series to the former German teams Telekom and Gerolsteiner. Our top tip in this regard is: Hell tour. Especially with regard to the knowledge that we now have, this documentation is particularly interesting.

Good news: You can stream all of the cycling films featured in this article on YouTube for free.

Hell Tour: The tour documentary with Zabel & Aldag

In 2003, the world of cycling was still fine for many. Before the devastating Fuentes scandal, the professionals active at the time were just working through the Festina scandal and fighting for credibility - at least that was our impression. In order to further polish the image, Erik Zabel and Rolf Aldag had themselves documented during the 2003 Tour de France. The result was a thoroughly successful film hell tour. The great shots, statements and emotions are still impressive years later. With today's knowledge of the machinations within the Telekom team, we see many things from a completely different perspective. This makes the main characters acting in it less authentic, but the experience in front of the TV all the more interesting.

Science on Narrow Tires / The Last Percent

In the midst of the heyday of German cycling, several films were produced directly. As early as 1997, the Telekom team released a documentary worth seeing. In Science on narrow tires everything revolves around the question: What influence do science, technology and medicine have? The Gerolsteiner team also had themselves filmed. The documentary was born the last percent which is also about optimization in cycling. Starring: Fabian Wegmann.
