Best Cycling Movies #3: Outskirts: Route 66

April 3, 2020 by Michael Behringer

Cycling Movies

Cycling Movies: Cycling Route 66 from Chicago to Los Angeles. That's exactly the plot of Outskirts: Route 66. Four friends take you on an adventure along the famous American highway.

Good news: You can stream all of the cycling films featured in this article online for free.

Outskirts: Route 66 - a cycling adventure

The first major American highway - Route 66 - is known far beyond the country's borders. Completed in 1926, she opened the West Coast to the world. But a lot has changed since then. The popularity of Route 66 has remained - and with it the appeal. Four cyclist friends thought so too. Gus Morton, Pat Drapac, Sami Sauri and Justin Diamond set out to bike all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles. The actual performance was less important. Rather, this adventure film shines through the many encounters along the route.

All of Gus Morton's films are worth seeing

Outskirts: Route 66 was not Gus Morton's first film. The former pro has already shown his talent for such cycling films thereabouts. Even after Outskirts: Route 66 shouldn't be over yet. On the contrary: This film was just the beginning of a successful series. After that followed Outskirts II: The Big Land and Outskirts III: The Shadow of the East. Always there: Gus Morton. The now 30-year-old previously tried his hand as a professional on the road, but ended his career twice. Again and again he was drawn back to greater adventures. He has now apparently found the perfect partner in Rapha.
