Product news: New Giant TCR models

8 April 2020 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The Giant TCR has been one of the most popular bikes from the bicycle giant for years. Professionals as well as hobby drivers and recreational athletes swear by the technologies and features of the Giant TCR models. With a new model series

Thanks to new production possibilities and many innovations, the Giant development team was able
develop what they claim to be the fastest TCR of all time without making any compromises.

“The new TCR perfectly represents our new brand goal: to help drivers reach their full potential. It embodies the sum of important advances in our production facilities that we have been able to achieve through investments in new manufacturing technologies. It is also the result of good cooperation between our engineers, product designers, professional racers and leading aerodynamics experts. Our test data and practical experience speak for themselves. The new TCR is ultra-efficient and more aerodynamic, but with the same outstanding ride quality that has made it a favorite of many racers for years. 'Ride Unleashed' is our new brand slogan - the new TCR embodies this spirit perfectly.” – An Le, Global Marketing Director

Giant TCR Features:

efficiency

The Giant TCR is characterized by its high stiffness-to-weight ratio. This is made possible by new composite materials, laser-cut carbon parts and advanced robotic layup technology. In this way, the new TCR offers the best torsional and drive stiffness, which should ensure lively driving characteristics, explosive acceleration and improved performance on the mountain.

aerodynamics

The new Giant TCR is the biggest improvement on its predecessor in terms of aerodynamics. To this end, each individual tube shape has been precisely analyzed, further developed and tested in order to create a frame that, viewed as a whole, has significantly lower drag over a larger range of flow angles.

Control

The revised disc brake mounts, the completely new "WheelSystems" carbon wheelset with greater crosswind stability and the user-friendly tubeless setup should ensure even better control on the Giant TCR. In addition, the new carbon fork ensures direct handling and precise steering behavior. With a tire clearance of up to 32 mm, additional control and grip is possible.

Giant TCR - Developed with professionals

The TCR was developed together with the professionals of the CCC team and their technical staff. Reigning Olympic Champion Greg Van Avermaet provided valuable input and secured his first WorldTour victory on a pre-production TCR model at the Grand Prix Cycliste Montréal last September.

“This TCR has been significantly improved in terms of aerodynamics compared to its predecessors, without sacrificing its best-in-class stiffness-to-weight ratio. Every single tube shape has been engineered to reduce drag while retaining the proven TCR qualities that have made it the premier road bike in pro cycling for the past two decades.” – Nixon Huang, Road Category Manager

Giant TCR – The equipment

Apart from the many advantages of the new frame, there are also some exciting innovations in the components of the new TCR series. Above all, the new Giant SLR WheelSystem wheelset. Both versions, i.e. both the "SLR 1" and the "SLR 2" are equipped with a hookless, 42 mm deep carbon rim, which is now wider (19,4 mm internal width compared to the previous 17 mm) and optimized for larger tires . This gives you a "rounder" tire shape, which brings more stability and control in corners. The new rims are manufactured using an innovative layup process in which the carbon fibers are positioned in such a way that maximum strength and durability are achieved with the lowest weight. The wheels also feature Dynamic Balanced Lacing (DBL) technology and use low-friction hubs for efficiency and reduced rolling resistance.

The 2021 model series is also equipped with new Giant saddles. The “Fleet” and “Approach” models ensure in-house seating comfort. Both have a wide, short-nose shape and an ergonomic cut-out for superior comfort and support. Its side section offers additional freedom of movement for more efficiency when pedaling. All "Fleet" and "Approach" models are equipped with "Particle Flow" technology, which distributes the pressure better to avoid numbness.

Giant TCR – The models

The 2021 Giant TCR range includes three frame models: the Advanced SL, the Advanced Pro and the
Advanced. All three models are available with disc brakes and rim brakes. So there are six models in total:

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
