Campagnolo Bora WTO 60DB: Tradition goes aero

5 May 2020 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The new Campagnolo Bora WTO 60 DB is the first aero wheel from the traditional Italian manufacturer of disc brakes. With its 60 millimeter high rims, this wheel is specially developed for high-speed events such as time trials, triathlons and target sprints.

With the Bora WTO 60 DB, Campagnolo presents its first aerodynamic disc brake wheel with a 60 mm profile for speed lovers. Thanks to the high profile, all the aerodynamic advantages from Campagnolo's R&D studies can be transferred to the road. The design of each individual component ensures the best aerodynamics. This even goes so far that the wind even becomes an advantage at certain angles and gives the impeller more momentum.

During development, every decision was made with the premise of “optimizing performance”. For this reason, the carbon rims were designed with a unidirectional surface and a rounded profile optimized in the wind tunnel, as well as the new aerodynamic aluminum hubs and the ceramic USB cone bearing shell system. The rim design allows for maximum aerodynamic penetration. This means that the best aerodynamic values can be guaranteed with the widest possible range of inflow angles. With a wind angle between 10° and 20°, which should be the case about 80% of the time, this wheel is unrivaled when it comes to overcoming air resistance, according to the manufacturer. The unpainted carbon rim with a unidirectional surface ensures the rigidity and smooth-running typical of Campagnolo, two factors that have a significant influence on the performance on the bike.

The rim profile, with an internal width of 19 mm, forms a perfect combination for 23, 25 and 28 mm tyres. With the 2-Way Fit technology, Campagnolo guarantees full compatibility with both clincher and tubeless tires. The patented Momag system ensures that the rim base does not require any drilling. This allows for weight savings, increases rigidity and also helps when using tubeless tires as no special rim tape is required. This also ensures easy maintenance and cleaning of the wheel when changing tires. But the topic of safety was not lost sight of because of the sheer performance. The G3 lacing with doubled spoke count on the left side of the front wheel ensures balanced and safe braking performance in all conditions. To ensure the best quality, the Campagnolo Bora WTO 60 DB wheel is assembled entirely by hand by a Campagnolo specialist and is 100% checked using electronic instruments. This process guarantees maximum performance and reliability for every single brand wheel. In addition to the first-class aerodynamics, the wheel should not only be suitable for flat rides due to its appealing total weight of 1590 grams.
