Cycling highlights: The Floyd Landis big show on the 2006 tour

22 May 2020 by Michael Behringer

Landi's 2006 tour

Cycling highlights: Floyd Landis won the 2006 Tour de France – at least for a short time. He was then disqualified and removed from all ratings. But his solo ride on the 17th stage will not be forgotten.

Landis breaks in and hits back

For three years, Floyd Landis was on the US Postal team alongside Lance Armstrong. After that he wanted to become a great zampano himself. In 2006 the time had come. In the colors of the Phonak team, he took over the scepter of the Tour de France. After he was able to nibble more and more of the lead from Oscar Pereiro, he took over the yellow jersey again after the 15th stage up to Alpe d'Huez. But then, a day later, the burglary. He lost over ten minutes en route to Les Sybelles. From the dream, so everyone thought. Even when Landis attacked on the first mountain less than 24 hours later, the competition let him go without much hesitation. It is believed that the American has given up overall victory. The experts also initially assumed that Landis was only going to win a stage. But they were wrong.

Businessman with cannabis products

At Morzine, Floyd Landis finished over seven minutes ahead of Oscar Pereiro. Due to the time trial one day before the end, he was able to put on the yellow jersey again and celebrate the overall victory in Paris. But it should only be a snapshot. Meanwhile, Landis has been removed from all result lists. Years later, as a confessed key witness, he was even the main cause of Lance Armstrong's deep fall. On the basis of his payments, he then founded a cycling team. But he sees his professional future as an entrepreneur. In 2016 he founded the company "Floyd of Leadville". Landis thus distributes cannabis products.
