Bike booklet: Getting started for MTB and eMTB newcomers goes online

June 26, 2020 by Andrew Waldera

Spectrum: More and more people are using their bikes for extensive excursions into nature. The eMTB and the Corona crisis are doing their part to ensure that the sales figures are skyrocketing. Reaching out to a mountain bike, whether electrified or not, poses a number of challenges for newcomers. Beginners will find help in the bike booklet, which contains important tips on equipment, riding technique, safety and nature conservation.

The bike booklet supports mountain bike newcomers with important advice and recommendations from Thomas and Alexander Huber as well as influencers from the bike scene for sustainable biking. The booklet contains answers to important questions about the topic of mountain biking. The reading is devoted, among other things, to the equipment, how to get there and how to behave in an emergency. Finding like-minded people is just as important as improving your driving technique. The bike booklet would like to serve as a friendly adviser and guide, without raising or admonishing forefingers.

“I would like all nature users to take the time for this nature. That they can get involved in order to be able to recognize the high value of this time. I basically wish everyone was there a little more in the moment. In my opinion, when people become aware of this value, it has a direct influence on the coexistence and it brings a certain humility towards nature and other users to light. This way you understand much better why there are certain commandments and rules.” – Thomas Huber, extreme mountaineer & author

Excerpt from the bike booklet

Together with the two-wheeler industry association, the Mountain Bike Tourism Forum Germany has produced a video series on the topics of the bike booklet. Big names in the scene open the door to the bike community for newcomers and give important tips on equipment, riding technique, safety and nature conservation. Biking should thus be brought closer to even more people and especially children in a sustainable way. The video series will be expanded with more contributions and protagonists over the course of the season.

“Mountain biking in particular gives children confidence and lets them experience their own limits. In this way, fears are often not built up in the first place, but confidence in one's own actions increases. I think that's extremely important if we don't want to slip into an anxious society." - Thomas Huber, extreme mountaineer & author

The bike booklet can also be ordered in larger quantities for distribution by clubs, institutions and individuals; the online version can be found at www.bike-booklet.de. The bike booklet videos are available online at www.bike-booklet.de/videos/
