Merckx was able to win almost every race
In our current series "10 Questions for the Top Stars" current professionals answer the question of which driver is the greatest of all time. Many of them note that comparison across generations is impossible. Most, however, mention his name: Eddy Merckx. The Belgian turns 75 today and enjoys the highest reputation in all of cycling. No wonder, because finally won "the cannibal" almost every race. He triumphed five times in the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia. He was also able to finish victorious in the Vuelta a Espana. He was world champion three times, he won Milan – Sanremo seven times, Liège – Bastogne – Liège five times, Paris – Roubaix three times, and the Tour of Flanders and the Tour of Lombardy twice each. And those were just his greatest achievements...
Jacques Anquetil:
"Take Eddy Merckx's legs, Eddy Merckx's head, Eddy Merckx's brawn, Eddy Merckx's heart and Eddy Merckx's hunger to win - and you have the ideal racer."
Eddy Merckx:
“I was born on this planet. I'm not an alien. There will definitely be someone again who has as much ambition and discipline as I once did.”
