Bike Events: For more than two decades, the Bike Festival Willingen has been an integral part of the calendar of mountain bikers from all over Germany and abroad. More than 35000 visitors attend the popular mountain bike event in Sauerland every year. Clearly too much in the Corona year: The current conditions and rules for major events in Hesse do not allow an event of this size.
With the cancellation of the Bike Festival Willingen 2020, the corona pandemic is bringing another major event to its knees this year. “It is the largest outdoor fair in Germany, which consists of the hustle and bustle on the festival grounds and the exchange of numerous mountain bikers and industries. An event of this magnitude is simply no longer possible this year due to the strict conditions in Hesse" commented event manager Monika Weber on the current situation. The figures of the past few years speak for themselves. More than 35.000 visitors cavort every year on the exhibition grounds and the surrounding racetracks. In addition, there are the official employees, the volunteers and the participants who start at the side events. In Hesse, however, only large events up to a maximum of 250 people are currently permitted. The 23rd edition of the popular mountain bike event in Sauerland for 2020 must therefore be cancelled. Monika Weber continues: “It is difficult for us to completely cancel the event for this year; We are already putting our entire focus on a successful Bike Festival 2021 and are working on an exciting new program with great side events.” The new date for the coming year has already been set. The next Bike Festival in Willingen will therefore take place from May 28th to 30th, 2021. Already booked starting places automatically remain valid for the new date.
