Cycling: Actually, today should have been a nice day. The Polish Tour Dookola Mazowsza is the first UCI event after the Corona break. But after a motorcycle accident, the first stage had to be abandoned.
Not a good UCI restart after the Corona break
Normally, the cycling world would be looking to France at the moment. Because there the Tour de France would now go into the preliminary phase after the first day of rest. But the corona pandemic has thrown the UCI racing calendar upside down. This is how cycling fans are currently looking at Poland. Here takes place with the tour Dookoła Mazowsza the first UCI race after the Corona break took place. Unfortunately, the first section could not be completed. Around 30 kilometers before the finish, the first stage was stopped. A motorcycle that is not part of the race is said to have had an accident. Since both paramedics and police cars blocked the circuit afterwards, the organizers had no choice but to end the race early. Cyclists are said not to have been involved in the accident.
Dookoła Mazowsza: 4 days of cycling near Warsaw
With the start and finish in Teresin, the 63rd Dookoła Mazowsza should have actually covered 168,0 kilometers today. The Tour of Poland near Warsaw consists of four stages. Tomorrow's schedule is a 2,0 kilometer individual time trial. There are no WorldTour teams at the start, but among others the Austrian team Felbermayr - Simplon Wels, the Leopard Pro Cycling Team, the CCC Development Team and a national team from Germany. A total of 147 drivers from 16 countries are taking part, including 12 Germans and 9 Austrians. It remains to be hoped that the motorcyclist who was involved in the accident will recover well and the tour can continue tomorrow. Since the WorldTour Paris – Nice No more UCI races were held in mid-March.
