E-Freerider for the toughest jobs: Niner Bikes WFO e9

July 9, 2020 by the editorial office

E-Performance: For a long time, Niner Bikes only had “manually” driven mountain and gravel bikes in its portfolio. But this is about to change abruptly with the RIP e9 and WFO e9 models. For the two electrically assisted enduro and trail bikes, the small American forge relies on German engineering from Bosch. The Performance Line CX 4th Gen. fires the aluminum bolides immensely, so that two special e-bike models are created.

Niner WFO e9: From freeride to downhill without using a lift

E-bikes now make access to impassable and, above all, fun terrain even easier. This is perfect if the bike also has the necessary equipment for demanding and rough terrain. The Niner WFO e9 is optimally equipped for this type of bike tour and has plenty of reserves with 180mm of travel at the front and rear.

The Niner WVO e0's frame is hand-welded entirely from 6061 aluminum and bonded to the compliant motor mount. The well thought-out engine mount also cleverly accommodates the upper and lower pivot points and the damper mount. All parts are solid and therefore permanently robust. Forged frame end pivots and dropouts add rigidity, and the pivots run on Enduro Max Black Oxide bearings for smooth and durable performance.

In addition, the "Ninerds" - as the Niner engineers call themselves - are so convinced of the quality of the frames that they come with a lifetime guarantee. Torque-sensitive, instantaneous power delivery is made possible courtesy of Bosch and the Gen 4 Performance Line CX drive system. In order to do this for as long as possible, a 625 Wh battery is integrated into the down tube.

With a spring deflection of up to 180 mm, the Horst Link 4-joint suspension system offers ideal behavior on the trail, but also when pedalling. Every parameter of the proven design has been adjusted to achieve Niner's signature supple yet stable suspension response. Leverage, shock length, stroke, alignment and mounting position are all matched to Niner's spec. And since the rocker arm rotates the upper damper bushing far more than the lower one, one of the things that has been done is to point the damper upwards.

Our WFO e9 is rounded off by a "mullet" setup, 29ers in the front/27,5+ in the back. Due to the smaller rear wheel, the chainstays are kept short, which enables a fast riding style and offers massive traction.
