Test: The Storck e:drenalin comes with high-quality components and a full carbon frame in its GTS 500 XT configuration. The result: At 21,44 kg, it is one of the lightest bikes in the test. With a 170mm suspension fork, 150mm at the rear and 2,6 inch wide tires, it offers plenty of reserves for off-road use. The E8000 motor from Shimano is powered by an integrated 504Wh battery.

When it comes to the name Storck, many bicycle fans undoubtedly still think primarily of racing bikes, lightweight construction and high-tech carbon. For many years, however, the German manufacturer has also had a whole range of mountain bikes in its range, and for some time also with a motor. Some elements of the typical Storck DNA have also made it to the new e:drenalin GTS E-MTB. First of all, there is the noble full carbon frame, which, like the selected components, is responsible for the fact that the bike is one of the lightest in our high-end test field at less than 21,5kg - and that despite 170mm travel at the front and 150mm at the rear.

But don't be fooled by the large spring travel reserves and expect a downhill specialist behind the e:drenalin. The fact that this is not the case is already clear from the seating position. Due to a very high front and a short main frame, the driver is pushed into an upright and initially very comfortable seating position. This ensures a good overview and a high level of comfort on the flat, uphill and generally at a moderate pace. Unfortunately, the handling downhill is extremely stilted, which is also due to the rather high bottom bracket. At high speeds, the e:drenalin quickly gets nervous and the steering angle, which is rather steep for a 170mm bike, doesn't help to calm things down.

Even if the Storck E-MTB doesn't shine on the descent, it has other strengths: If you put the switch in your head to touring mode, the bike pedals very comfortably and the high-quality Fox suspension components iron out all bumps with a weary smile - the forest road may be so bad.
Strong on the way up
The impression is similarly positive as on the level when you go towards the summit - also technically. This is where the idiosyncratic geometry shows its strengths. The high bottom bracket gives you a lot of ground clearance and the short main frame, in combination with the long chain stays, ensures that you can usually master steep ramps while sitting down without any problems. Here the Shimano E8000 motor proves to be more of a limitation. The drive is extremely natural and beautifully dynamic, but in the limit area it should bring a little more power to the ground.
The fact that the Storck e:drenalin is more of a potent tourer than an uncompromising downhill machine is evident in the choice of tires: While the non-slip Magic Mary from Schwalbe in the soft rubber compound provides grip at the front, the Nobby Nic on the rear wheel delights with a low profile Background noise and good rolling behavior. In deep ground or wet conditions, however, the rear tire quickly reaches its limits. The choice of other components is convincing: The Shimano XT gears work reliably as usual, as do the brakes from the same series. However, heavier riders may want to consider a larger rear brake disc.
