European Championship: Annemiek van Vleuten also takes this title

August 27, 2020 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: She just can't be beat. After winning the World Championship, Annemiek van Vleuten has now also secured the European Championship in an exciting race.

Annemiek van Vleuten is also the undisputed best

The squad of the Dutch women sounded like half a world selection. But the clear favorites struggled. In the women's European Championship race, however, they still took 1st and 4th place. Together with the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini and the Pole Katarzyna Niewiadoma could become world champion Annemiek van Vleuten drop. When her compatriot - and strong sprinter - Chantal van den Broek Blaak when Solistin gave chase, Van Vleuten was able to rest. Several times there was a merger and as a result of attacks again four lone fighters. Ultimately, Annemiek van Vleuten and Elisa Longo Borghini should turn onto the home stretch together. And although she seemed less confident today, in the end Annemiek van Vleuten was allowed to raise her arms again. Best German was Lisa Brennauer in sixth place.
