Cycling: What a surprise at the Sachsenring! At the German championship on the road, Marcel Meisen prevailed among the men. Lisa Brennauer, on the other hand, managed to defend the women's title.
Marcel Meisen shocks Bora – hansgrohe
Today the Rad-DM 2020 finally took place. The pros had to complete numerous laps on the Sachsenring – actually a motorsport race track. With the rain-soaked road surface and occasional pouring rain, there were a few falls in the curves. Held up on the final laps Jacob Stenzel (Veloclub Ratisbona p/b Zweirad) and Kim Alexander Heiduk (Lotto – Kern-Haus) the seasoned professionals on their toes. Bora – hansgrohe controlled the pace and was finally able to catch all the fugitives in time. Also Nicodemus Holler (Bike Aid) was not successful as a soloist. As expected, there was a mass sprint. But what came next, no one could have foreseen. Allrounder took the place of the numerous top sprinters in the field Marcel Meisen (Alpecin – Fenix) through. The 31-year-old crosser left Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe) and Alexander Krieger (Alpecin – Fenix) behind and celebrates his first German championship title on the road.

Lisa Brennauer defends her championship title
The women's race successfully defended the title. Lisa Brennauer (Ceratiztit – WNT) won the coveted championship jersey like last year at the Sachsenring. In the sprint she was able to advance after just under three hours Charlotte Becker (Arkéa – Samsic) and Tanya Erath (Canyon – SRAM) prevail. There was almost a small sensation. Svenja Betz (RSG Gießen Biehler) attacked about 25 kilometers before the finish and held the lead as a soloist with a lead of about one minute until the last kilometer. Only on the final kilometer could the favorites catch up and decide the championship among themselves.
