New shoes for gravel, mountain enduro, XC and road bikes: Shimano presents new shoe models

August 19, 2020 by Andrew Waldera

Shimano shoes

Product news: As of September, Shimano is coming up with numerous new shoe models for different areas of use. The portfolio ranges from XC to mountain enduro to racing bikes. In addition, the designers gave the RX8 gravel shoe, which was only introduced last year, a new coat of extravagant violet-green paint.

Shimano RX8 gravel shoes

Inspired by the prickly pear cactus Santa Rita, the designers gave the RX8 an extravagant purple-green color combination. In addition to the low weight of only 265 grams (size 42), features of the slim Gravel shoe include the stiff, race-oriented carbon fiber composite sole and the abrasion-resistant TPU cleats. The Boa IP1 coil with dual micro-adjustment function allows the rider to easily adjust even while riding. The purple version of the RX8 will be available from September in sizes 38-48 at a price of 229,95 euros. The previously offered versions in silver and black for men and navy for women will remain in the range.

Entry-level models RC1/RC3 for racing bikes

The new entry-level models RC3 and RC1 for racing cyclists are based on the S-PHYRE top model RC9. Both the RC3 and RC1 feature a breathable, wrap-around mesh upper and a fiberglass-reinforced nylon sole. The sole stiffness of both models is specified as 6/12. The less expensive RC1 is fixed to the foot with three robust Velcro straps, which should distribute the pressure evenly over the top of the foot, while the RC3 uses a centrally placed Boa L6 twist lock. The shoes will be available from September in specific women's and men's versions. The price is 84,95 euros (RC1) or 99,95 euros (RC3).

In addition to the RC1/RC3 entry-level models for racing bikes, there are also two special variants for mountain bikers. Just like in the racing bike sector, the XC models have also inherited the proven technologies of the S-PHYRE top model XC9. These include the integrated, seamless midsole and the seamless upper shoe construction. The XC1, equipped with three offset Velcro fasteners, is available at a price of 84,95 euros, the XC3 with a centrally placed Boa fastener costs 3 euros, like the RC99,95 racing bike shoe. The new entry-level models XC1/XC3 will be available from September.

Shimano ME5/ME7: The all-rounders for mountain enduro

The top model ME7 has been put through its paces by professional athletes in numerous enduro races. The knowledge gained here has flowed into the development of the new ME models. The new Michelin outsole with two density zones not only guarantees good grip on the ME7, but is also characterized by robustness and stability. The torsion-capable TORBAL midsole enables the necessary flexibility on the descent despite the high sole stiffness of 8/12. The shoe can be precisely adjusted using a quick lacing system and a new, flat, reverse-mounted ratchet closure. The price of the ME7 is given as 199,95 euros. The ME5 with Boa closure system and a sole stiffness of 6/12 is available for 169,95 euros.
