Cycling: Sam Bennett has finally achieved his first stage win in a Tour de France. The Irish champion beat Caleb Ewan and Peter Sagan in a bunch sprint. Germany's André Greipel was sixth.
No driver tested positive for Corona
There was good news for them today Tour de France before the start of the stage. Because on yesterday's rest day, the drivers and the employees of the teams and the tour organization were tested for the corona virus. It turned out that none of the drivers still in the race were infected. However, the tour director got caught Christian Prudhomme, as well as one employee each from the support staff of the AG2R La Mondiale, Cofidis, Ineos and Mitchelton - Scott teams. These had to leave the tour bubble immediately. Further tests are to be carried out on the second rest day in a week.
Swiss breakaway duo
With this positive - or just not positive - news, the pros went into the today tenth stage. This led them over 168,5 kilometers from Le Château-d'Oléron to Saint-Martin-de-Ré. With Michael Schar (CCC) and Stefan Kung (Groupama – FDJ) two Swiss went on the offensive. Even if they were initially awarded a small lead, the peloton finally made short work of it. Due to the danger of wind edges, the pace was always kept high by Deceuninck - Quick-Step, among others. Because of the cross wind and falls were meanwhile Tadej pogacar (UAE) and William Martin (Cofidis) distant. Eventually, however, all groups ran together again. The intermediate sprint decided 39,0 kilometers from the finish Matteo Trentin (CCC) before Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) and Sam Bennett (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) for himself.
Sam Bennett finally wins a Tour leg
20,0 kilometers before the finish there was another edge of wind, which was organized equally by Ineos and Jumbo - Visma. This broke the peloton in half. However, the most important sprinters and classification drivers remained vigilant. So it came to the expected Sprint Royal at the finish of Saint-Martin-de-Ré. Like the sprint stages before, this was prepared enormously by Sunweb. But when it came to the last meters, they were Michael Morkov (Deceuninck – Quick-Step) displaced. The Dane sprinted and acted like a locomotive for the Irish champions Sam Bennett (Deceuninck - Quick Step). This could just ahead Caleb ewan (Lotto – Soudal) and Peter Sagan (Bora – hansgrohe) over the finish line. He celebrates his first stage win in a Tour de France ever. He also wears the green jersey. André Greipel (Israel Start-Up Nation) sprinted to a respectable sixth place.
