Anna van der Breggen dethrones Annemiek van Vleuten
The Dutch women continue to dominate women's road cycling. At the 143,0-kilometer World Championship race in and around Imola, the Oranje riders captured gold and silver. Anna van der Breggen was the radiant winner. The 30-year-old attacked on the climb in the penultimate lap and, as a soloist, was uncatchable. This victory marks her second world title after her triumph in the time trial two days prior. Behind her, the injured Dutch rider Annemiek van Vleuten and the Italian Elisa Longo Borghini broke away in the final lap. In the sprint for silver, the defending champion ultimately had the stronger legs on the motor racing circuit in Imola. Marianne Vos capped off the strong Dutch performance with fourth place, ahead of the German Liane Lippert.
