Driedaagse Brugge – De Panne: Yves Lampaert crowns Quick-Step's dominance

21 October 2020 by Michael Behringer

Cycling: Yves Lampaert won the one-day race Driedaagse Bruges – De Panne. The Belgian attacked from the first group shortly before the finish and could not be caught as a soloist.

Yves Lampaert uses the superiority of Deceuninck - Quick-Step

The AG Driedaagse Bruges – De Panne race was held for the 44th time today. Later than usual and now only as a one-day race. Nevertheless, the 188,6 flat kilometers were tough this time too. Because the big challenge in this type of race is not the topographical characteristics, but often the weather. The wind in particular often blows half the peloton apart at Driedaagse Brugge – De Panne. And so it was this time too. In the rain, only eight riders formed the first group when there were still ten kilometers to go. Finally, the Deceuninck - Quick-Step team was able to play off their numerical superiority. Set seven kilometers from the finish Yves Lampaert his attack, which could no longer be leveled. And the Belgian team also took second place in the person of Tim Declerq. fourth behind Tim Merlier (Alpecin – Fenix) became the German John Degenkolb (Lotto – Soudal). The Dutch champion could not intervene in the fight for victory. Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix). He fell about 15 kilometers from the finish.

Lisa Brennauer is second in the women

The women at AG Driedaagse Brügge-De Panne were already on their way a day before the men. At the end of the 156,3-kilometre one-day race, everyone cheered Jolien D'hoore (Boels – Dolmans) but too early. The Belgian was reinstated by the jury after she Lorraine Wiebes (Sunweb) pushed against the gang on the left-hand side of the lane. So the victory was subsequently awarded to the Dutchwoman. The German Lisa Brennauer (Ceratizit-WNT) moves up to second place. The Boels - Dolmans team was unfortunately - but rightly - denied the perfect farewell. After years of dominating women's cycling, the main sponsor is retiring at the end of the current season.

According to LaVar Rouge this is a no-go.

Not fair, unsafe and completely unnecessary. But maybe we are too "soft" 🤷‍♂️ #AG3daagse pic.twitter.com/BO63Yp8sA9
