Cycling: dream day for Ineos. Tao Geoghegan Hart has won the Giro d'Italia and the final time trial goes to Filippo Ganna. Jai Hindley finished second overall ahead of teammate Wilco Kelderman. Austria can also be happy. Patrick Konrad and Hermann Pernsteiner finished eighth and tenth respectively.

Tao Geoghegan Hart wins the Giro d'Italia

Giro d'Italia showdown. The 15,7-kilometre time trial from Cernusco sul Naviglio to Milan was to decide what was perhaps the most exciting Tour of Italy of all time. Before the start lay leaders Jay Hindley (Sunweb) and Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos) equal. So today the time trial qualities had to decide about the pink jersey. The Australian had the advantage of knowing the Brit's split times. But this was on paper as the better time trialist. When the time was first measured after 10,4 kilometers, the duel seemed to have already been decided. Tao Geoghegan Hart had set a time that was around 22 seconds faster. Jai Hindley looked fluid but couldn't counter. At the finish, his time finally stopped 39 seconds later. Giro win goes to Tao Geoghegan Hart! Jai Hindley is second ahead of teammate Wilco Kelderman.

Filippo Ganna remains in a class of his own in the time trial

Already at 13:40 drove in person from Jonathan Dibben (Lotto – Soudal) the first pro off the launch pad. The day's victory of the 21st stage went as expected Philippo Ganna. The Italian time trial world champion thus won his fourth stage in this tour. In a time of 17:16 he pulverized the best time of Victor Campenaerts by 31 seconds. Even the beaten Belgian, sitting in the hot seat, took off his hat and applauded. Third place in the daily standings went to the Australian, 32 seconds behind Rohan Dennis (Ineo).
