Pegasus Premio EVO Lite test: At first glance, the Pegasus Premio Evo 10 Lite trekking e-bike looks like it was made for a sensible decision. But in the test, the e-bike shows itself from a completely different side: so sporty, comfortable and competent that the functional relationship soon becomes an emotional one.
Through thick and thin. To steal horses. In good and in bad times.
Anyone who is described in this way is very close to us, but emotions hardly resonate. The focus is on reliability, the functionality of a person, so to speak. Those who prove themselves can be close to us, especially when the going gets tough.
A small video preview of the Pegasus Premio EVO 10 Lite
Simply being beautiful is not enough, that applies to people as well as to technical products. Too many bikes want to please rather than be useful, putting function aside and presenting pleasing forms. But they only arouse emotions for a short time - if you ride a bike a lot, you will quickly notice where the problem is and then "fall out of love" pretty soon.
The Pegasus Premio EVO 10 Lite surprises
With the functional, on the other hand, it is often the other way around. The rational decision is made, the enthusiasm is limited - for now. They bought something solid that was supposed to be versatile and useful, but then came the surprise. The deep passage? A gift, comfort and easy handling were in the personal specifications. The comfortable handlebar shape? It didn't look that sporty, but to be honest, your hands have never felt so light and relaxed on the handles, which are very well formed by the way.
The key block within easy reach is easy to reach, so choose a medium mode; And that's when it turns. No rumbling or howling, we're not testing a motorcycle - just full, unrelenting thrust that drives us up the climb into the forest, past the puzzled-looking racing cyclist, the walkers scurry by, and now comes the hairpin bend that we've always had forced to dismount. Two-digit gradient percentages, and the pedal stroke is still light, the speed so high that you could take your hands off the handlebars without spinning.

Versatile e-bike with a sporty character
That's supposed to be the functional bestseller with which Pegasus achieves one sales record after the other? The bread-and-butter pedelec that is sold in the thousand bike shops of the parent company ZEG? At this moment we are sitting on a super sports car that seems to elude all categories of reason. When the headwind rushes in your ears on a 15% incline, what do you drive then? An e-road bike?
It becomes flatter, and what in normal cyclist life is the end of the several-minute pushing passage now becomes a high-speed experience. In the strongest driving mode, the Bosch CX drive now pushes off 85 Newton meters, pushing the Premio Evo 10 into the control range with a still four to five percent incline with a sonorous hum. 25 km/h, for non-motorized cyclists, even on the flat, can hardly be achieved - for the Pegasus that's a piece of cake, even on the mountain.
The bench at the horse pasture, usually perfect for resting after those hundred meters of altitude; today we'll ignore them, just slow down and look at the battery charge indicator on the display. Still all the bars, but it's actually clear. The capacity of the power storage is 625 watt hours, which means that the motor's continuous output of 250 watts can be accessed for two and a half hours. Even a well-trained athlete has a hard time with this, and on the e-bike the rider's own effort also comes into play. So it's no wonder that "organic cyclists" of all persuasions are left behind as soon as it goes up or into a headwind.
Pegasus Premio EVO 10 Lite: Sports tourer with comfort
But above all: On the Pegasus Premio EVO 10 Lite, this performance can be called up from an extremely comfortable sitting position; without hunching over the drop bars or in the odd position on a streamlined recumbent. "Sports tourer" is what we think to ourselves, that's the term that fits this e-bike. GT, Gran Turismo – driving long distances, at a brisk pace and with a lot of comfort, that is what the Premio Evo 10 is all about. And comfort is also the keyword for the following section of the route; right off the asphalt onto the rough, irregular gravel path, a few hundred meters long and repeatedly garnished with thicker boulders. Mountain bikers smile at 60 mm of travel, but here it shows that it fits perfectly. The Suntour fork absorbs vibrations and heavy shocks, especially when you ride them with a low preload. And no, it doesn't lead an undesirable life of its own - you don't have to switch to the saddle anyway on the powerful Pegasus, and the fork doesn't dive in particularly deep when braking either.
The tires – first-class Schwalbe Marathon Plus with a width of 47 mm – also underline the touring bike’s claim to comfort: the restrained profile ensures smooth running; If you lower the tire pressure a little, you will roll over bumps noticeably softer. This is especially positive because the rear of the Pegasus is rather tight - if you want it more comfortable, you should retrofit a suspension seat post.
Pegasus Premio Evo 10 Lite = ten gears
Premio Evo 10 – that stands for ten gears, of course. "State of the art" are currently twelve - a hidden cost-cutting measure? Probably not, because on the one hand we were far from being in the lowest gear, even on the steepest part of the climb. On the other hand, the Bosch Performance CX supports so much that even larger gear jumps are not unpleasantly noticeable. The Shimano disc brakes are also strong: It's going downhill, the speedometer shows 30, 33 km/h, now the way from the right - better get on your irons, because another cyclist is approaching from there. With two fingers to the blocking limit? No problem.
And that we are surprised by the twilight on our evening round is not a problem either. You should always ride with your lights on on an e-bike anyway, especially in city traffic, and with an illuminance of 100 lux, the Fuxon headlight casts a lot of light onto the road ahead. Obstacles dozens of meters away are clearly visible, leaving plenty of time to react.
Luckily it stays dry, and we didn't have a bag with us either - but we don't question the functionality of the mudguards and luggage rack. The Pegasus has shown so many good sides in the past hour that our initial sobriety has given way to enthusiasm. We now also perceive the Trekking model visually differently: if the first impression was "straight and unfussy", the black and white frame with integrated battery and internal cables now appears elegant and sporty to us. And the experiences of the past kilometers have left such a positive impression that one could almost say: We fell in love with the Premio Evo 10.
