Test: With hub gears, back pedaling and a comfortable sitting position, the Pegasus Solero SL 7 is ideal for everyday life on two wheels - maybe not exactly exclusive, but very functional and more than just "bread and butter".
How much bike does it have to be? This question can only be answered highly individually. Some people want a sports bike for the price of a small car, some just want to cycle through life safely and comfortably. Maybe not very long or very often, but when the time comes, the bike should be reliably ready.

A touring bike for every day
A touring bike that is pretty much tailored to this type of use is the Solero SL 7 from Pegasus. Available from hundreds of dealers across Germany, this is the classic everyday bike for shorter journeys. The upright sitting position is ideal in city traffic, as it gives you a good overview; the low step-through proves its worth if you often have to get off your bike - for example when shopping. The system luggage rack is also practical there, for which there are accessories such as baskets that can simply be clicked on - you can then simply take one with you to the shop.
Reliability is key
The everyday bike does not necessarily need complicated technology; Reliability is key if the bike is to function without complaint with little maintenance. Typical for the class is the seven-speed hub gear, whose quite closely spaced gears are ideal for rather flat terrain. And still very popular is the coaster brake, the use of which has become second nature to older drivers in particular. Here it is flanked by two rim brakes - it couldn't be safer.
Nowadays, one can take it for granted that a bike for 800 euros is equipped with parking lights at the front and rear – the Solero meets modern standards here. A suspension fork is also almost a must, although you can also imagine a variant with a rigid fork, especially in view of the upright sitting position. With the Solero Superlite model, Pegasus is demonstrating what that could look like – very pretty, although that elegant bike with derailleur gears and disc brakes costs just 100 euros more.
As a comfortable everyday bike with low maintenance requirements, the SL 7 certainly has the edge. Bicycle connoisseurs may prefer more exclusive fare, but in its four color variants the Solero is still more than just "bread and butter".
