Product news: Wahoo has made a name for itself in recent years with its bike computers and indoor training equipment. Today, the Wahoo Elemnt Rival, the first GPS multi-sport watch, represents the next milestone, bringing the user-focused design and functionality that cyclists, triathletes, and runners have long recognized as Wahoo products to the wrist.
We will soon bring a detailed test on Velomotion.de to the new Wahoo Elemnt Rival GPS watch!
Based on the tried-and-tested Elemnt technology, all the functions that you are used to from the Wahoo bike computers have been transferred to the Rival watch and thus extended to all disciplines. This should not only please triathletes, but appeal to all recreational and professional athletes.
“The real magic of the Wahoo Elemnt Rival GPS watch is that we were able to transfer everything we did with the Elemnt cycling computer one-to-one to our first multi-sport watch. So triathletes and runners can enjoy the same ease of use that cyclists have had access to since 2016. A key design concern was to create a watch whose looks matched its performance. A stylish, high-performing multi-sport watch, the Rival is the choice of any athlete looking for a lightweight GPS watch with incredible battery life to record their longest races and training sessions.” - Chip Hawkins, Founder of Wahoo
Wahoo Element Rival - Touchless Transition Technology
The Wahoo Elemnt Rival is said to be the first sports GPS tool that seamlessly supports and accompanies the athlete. A major feature is the Touchless Transition Technology developed for the Rival, which allows users to seamlessly transition from swimming to cycling to running without touching their watch. As part of the Wahoo ecosystem, the Rival's multisport handoff mode allows it to interact with Elemnt GPS cycling computers.
When you switch to a bike, the race data is automatically transferred from the watch to the Wahoo bike computer mounted on the handlebars - and then seamlessly transferred back to the RIVAL when you switch to running shoes. Of course, the recording continues in the background in the clock. This is how Wahoo ensures race data is always easy to see and easy to follow—and is captured correctly so athletes can focus on their race.
In addition to this innovative technology, the Wahoo Elemnt Rival has a number of other outstanding functionalities and features to offer. A ceramic bezel and an ambient light sensor ensure an attractive look and automatically adjust the backlight to the ambient light situation. Another highlight that should not go unmentioned is the battery life. Because it lasts a whopping 14 days in watch mode or 24 hours in GPS mode. A barometric altimeter, an optical heart rate sensor and live tracking complete the high-quality setup.
As the name suggests, the Wahoo Elemnt Rival also uses the same easy-to-setup, user-friendly platform and mobile app as Wahoo's GPS bike computers. The Rival therefore tracks all standard run, bike and swim metrics and, when paired with the Wahoo Tickr X heart rate belt, can also capture detailed running dynamics parameters. After training, the data is available in the Wahoo Companion App and can be automatically uploaded to third-party platforms such as TrainingPeaks and Strava. The new Wahoo GPS watch can also be connected to ANT+ and Bluetooth sensors and is therefore able to control the Wahoo Kickr smart trainers as well.
Today, the Rival is used by some of the world's top triathletes, including Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno, American Ironman World Record Holder Heather Jackson and two-time Olympian Sarah True.
“One of the great things about professional sports is being able to focus on yourself. During a race there is so much noise that ideally I would like to be able to completely “forget” about my technical equipment. I just want to focus XNUMX% on myself. And being able to forget my smartwatch is great because it's another distraction I don't have to think about.” – Jan Frodeno, Ironman World Champion
The Wahoo Elemnt Rival GPS watch is available now at select Wahoo retailers and on the Wahoo Fitness website for $379,99.
