Product news: With the Canyon Stoic, the Kobelnz company are breaking new ground and presenting their first genuine trail hardtail. With a robust frame, well thought-out equipment, 140 or 150 mm spring travel and a playful geometry, the bike should be able to cover a large number of different areas of use.
Robust and low-maintenance: Carefree bike with a fun factor?
The trail or fun hardtail category isn't new, but it's growing a little bit more out of its niche with each passing year. That's no wonder, because the areas of application are diverse: from the inexpensive entry-level bike for new bikers who can't or don't want to afford a fully, to the winter trail bike for those who don't want to expose their beloved fully to these conditions. It is precisely this huge range of different bikers that the new Canyon Stoic wants to appeal to. The bike should feel just as comfortable on the pump track as it does on the enduro trail.
The people from Koblenz want to achieve this with 140 mm spring travel at the front and 29 inch wheels - at least that applies to the sizes M to XL. In the two smallest sizes, Canyon relies on 27,5″ wheels and 10 mm more travel. Despite the very different frame dimensions, you want to keep the riding experience constant across the entire size spectrum.

The heart of the Canyon Stoic is a simple aluminum frame, although Canyon put a lot of thought into its design. It has a robust design and meets the same in-house stress standard as the Strive enduro race bike. Maintenance has also been considered and we want to make it as easy as possible for the owners. Example? Although the outer casing for the gears runs inside the frame, it is laid continuously from the trigger to the rear derailleur - so the outer casing can simply remain in the frame when changing the cable. The brake line, on the other hand, runs completely externally so that you don't have to disassemble and bleed the entire brake every time you attach or detach it.

You don't have to worry about tire width either - Canyon specifies a maximum of 29 inches for 2,6 inch tires, and even 650 inches for 2,8b.
Canyon Stoic: Geometry
Finding the right balance for a fun hardtail like the Canyon Stoic is quite demanding – someone who blasts down the trail at supersonic speed has different demands on a bike than someone who spends a lot of time on the pump track. The designers of the Stoic therefore combine a long main frame with a fairly slack steering angle with ultra-short chainstays. You should definitely be able to enjoy a pleasant balance between smooth running and liveliness, without having the feeling of being on a moving compromise. It might only be necessary to put pressure on the front wheel on steep uphill ramps in order not to lose traction. But all of this is nothing more than gray theory for the moment - we hope to be able to clarify this in a test in the near future.

Canyon Stoic: complete bike from 799 euros
Canyon will initially be launching the Stoic in three equipment variants between 799 and 1.799 euros. Even the cheap entry-level model already promises a lot of fun here - even if you have to make a few compromises in terms of bandwidth with the Deore M6000 gears and unfortunately you don't get a dropper post. The latter is then found on the other two models, both of which are equipped with RockShox forks and 12-speed gears from Sram. The weight of 14 - 15 kilograms is perfectly fine in view of the price and equipment and in the context of the bicycle category.
