Super prestige in Heusden-Zolder: Van der Poel as a soloist, Brand WINS the sprint

Cycling: At the Superprestige in Heusden-Zolder, Mathieu van der Poel didn't give the competition a chance. Lucinda Brand triumphed in the women's sprint.

Van der Poel with an early attack

Mathieu van der Poel left no doubt at today's Superprestige race in Heusden-Zolder that the cyclocross dominator is back. The Dutch world champion won with an impressive solo after attacking in the second round. Wout van Aert was only second, 35 seconds behind. The overall leader up to this race, Eli Iserbyt, fell heavily on the third lap and probably suffered a broken elbow.

Brand has the fastest sprint

The women got down to business much more closely than the men. The winner could only be determined in the sprint on the home straight. Lucinda Brand once again proved her fast legs. In front of world champion Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, Annemarie Worst and Denise Betsema, she crossed the finish line as the winner at the same time. In the overall standings, however, it remains close with one race to go.
