Spectrum / Corona: Germany is still in the grip of the corona virus. Since the number of infections has still not reached the desired level despite the lockdown, the prime ministers of the federal states have decided on further corona measures. One rule does not go unnoticed by cyclists either: the 15 km rule. Is sensible cycling still possible?
What is the 15 km rule all about?
Each household is currently only allowed to with a single person meet from another household. The prime ministers decided to further restrict contacts. To make it clear: Grandma and grandpa are not allowed to visit your family together, although it is the same household. However, the 15 km rule is of particular interest to cyclists.
Increases the incidence value in a county in a 7-day period over 200 per 100.000 inhabitants, the 15 km rule comes into effect. This states that in your free time you should not spend more than Move 15 km away from where you live may. The way to work or to go shopping is expressly not affected.
effects on cycling
For recreational cyclists, this means: You have to plan your tours within a 15-kilometer radius of your place of residence as soon as the 7-day incidence in your district is over 200. The tightened movement restrictions currently apply to 53 counties. Most of them are in Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria.
This may not be a problem for short trips. When it comes to bike training, the whole thing becomes more complex, because hardly any tour planning tool has a radius function for planning tours within a radius of X kilometers.
Easily calculate the range of motion
If you want to go on longer tours without violating the Corona requirements, we can provide you with the tool CalcMaps with its map radius calculator recommend. Here you can determine with just a few mouse clicks in which radius you can move in a Corona-compliant manner. Inspired by the crisis measures, it will probably not be long before Komoot, Strava and Co. discover such a function for themselves.
