Team introduction: In 2021 Mitchelton - Scott will become Team BikeExchange

5 January 2021 by Michael Behringer

BikeExchange 2021 Mitchelton - Scott

Cycling: New colors, new name. In 2021 Mitchelton - Scott will become the BikeExchange team. Many transfers ensure movement in the Australian squad. How strong can we expect this team to be in the coming season?

Mitchelton - Scott 2020: Hardly any successes in the WorldTour

2020 was not a good year for the Australian team Mitchelton - Scott, at least for the men. With 16 victories and 30 more podium places, the numbers are correct, but if you take a closer look at the results, the big successes are missing. Adam Yates won a stage at the UAE Tour and the general classification. Brother did the same Simon yates near Tirreno-Adriatico. There could too Lucas Hamilton choose a piece for yourself. But that was it with victories within the WorldTour. In the three major state tours, the otherwise strong stage chasing team was unsuccessful. And with 9th place for Adam Yates in the overall ranking of the Tour de France, the best Grand Tour result of the year was not a success worth mentioning. Pleasing: With the 22-year-old Caden Groves you have a young, talented sprinter in your own ranks again, who was able to contribute three wins this season.

What a roller coaster 🎢 of a year 2020 has been!

Transfers: Many identification figures leave

Despite only a few transfers, there will be big changes in the team for the coming season. For the first time the brothers Adam Yates and Simon Yates go their separate ways. While Simon Yates remains loyal to the Australian team, Adam Yates will start for Ineos in 2021. You lose more identification figures with it Michael Albasini, Daryl Impey and Jack Haig. All three have always been active for Mitchelton - Scott in recent years and were automatically associated with Australian cycling. Also the departure of Edward Affini hurts because the Italian is considered a talented time trialist. But the additions are also impressive. With Michael Matthews you bring back an old identification figure. The 30-year-old Australian has been with the team for four years and has shown that he is still one of the strongest in difficult sprint finishes. Amund Grondahl Jansen will reinforce the classic faction and can control the field during a tour of the flat. Tanel Kangert brings experience to the group while Kevin Colleoni considered talent.

BikeExchange 2021: Looking for winners

The co-sponsor BikeExchange, which has been active for several years, will replace the main sponsor Mitchelton - Scott in the coming season. The many important transfers will not only change the name and the jersey. For the first time we will the brother duel between Simon yates and get to see Adam Yates. For BikeExchange 2021 to be successful, the Australians need a strong Simon Yates in the high mountains and one in top form Michael Matthews with difficult sprint arrivals. Because you no longer have many winning drivers in your own ranks. Stephen Chaves is now 30 years old and doesn't seem to be getting back to its former form. A positive development of Sprinter is all the more important Caden Groves. Otherwise, there could be another step backwards in the team in 2021.
