Specialized S-Works Ares: THE racing shoe?!

21 January 2021 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The new Specialized S-Works Ares is said to be THE new racing shoe from the US manufacturer. This was created on the basis of the well-known Body Geometry Fit System in combination with the intensive cooperation of the world's best athletes and is intended to ensure ultimate performance and fit.

The development of the new Specialized S-Works Ares road shoe was based on the scientific data of the Body Geometry Database and the prototypes were continuously improved in cooperation with the best WorldTour riders in order to redefine the category of performance-oriented road shoe. According to the manufacturer, the Specialized S-Works Ares should be faster, more efficient and more powerful than any other Specialized shoe in order to provide the decisive seconds or even centimeters at the end of a race.

Nevertheless, the developers were also aware that optimal performance is only possible if the driver feels comfortable in the shoe. Therefore, a main focus was placed on the perfect balance between performance values, such as power transmission, and all-day comfort. A completely new, patent-pending closure was developed for this purpose. Due to the special closure arrangement in the midfoot area and the distribution of the pressure over a larger area, the S-Works eliminates
Ares essentially the rolling of the foot in the shoe, which should ensure a significantly better fit, more comfort and better power transmission.

Specialized S-Works Ares – What is Body Geometry?

Thanks to the so-called Body Geometry System, the shoes are designed in such a way that they align the hips, knees and feet in such a way that you can achieve more performance, more comfort and at the same time a lower risk of injury. It all starts with the Varus Wedge, a 1,5mm outward slope of the outsole that stabilizes the forefoot and helps align the ankle, knee and hip. This prevents the arch of the foot from buckling with the patented longitudinal arch, which is incorporated into the outsole and can be individually adjusted with three different arch height insoles.

Especially with explosive speed, there should be no inconveniences. By combining the new closure system with a Dyneema-reinforced tongueless entry, uncomfortable pressure on the tendons has been eliminated to ensure maximum comfort. Tests have shown that you will be 1% faster with the Specialized S-Works Ares.

"When I slip my feet into the Ares, it's like wearing my cozy slippers." - Julian Alaphilippe, 2020 UCI Road World Champion

Stiffer, lighter, better - that's what Specialized calls its new outsole. This has the high-quality FACT Powerline Carbon with a stiffness index of 15. Especially in combination with the new locking system, the Ares becomes a real weapon.
