Cycling dates: The year 2021 also suffers from the corona virus. Again he messes up the UCI racing calendar. Many races have already been cancelled. The calendar should be reorganized by April at the latest. We look at those races in February that have not yet been canceled.
Cycling dates: Numerous race cancellations
Actually, the cycling season is slowly picking up speed in February. We already have the Tour Down Under behind us, as well as the Cadel Evans Road Race, the Mallorca Challenge and La Tropicale Amissa Bongo. But in 2021 everything is different. All of the races mentioned could not be held. They were canceled or postponed because the corona pandemic continues to have a firm grip on us. It will probably be like this for a few more weeks, as UCI President David Lappartient expects.
David Lappartient:
“The first half of the year will be difficult. Most countries are conducting a vaccination campaign. In addition, we must monitor the development of possible mutations. But it is then possible to create blocks of races in one country within a period of time, like we did in Italy last year.”
Postponed is not cancelled
At the same time, UCI President David Lappartient gives fans, teams and organizers hope. All canceled races are to be made up for in this calendar. True to the motto. Postponed is not cancelled. But that probably won't work across the board. Due to the weather and also due to too many dates, some events will lose out.
David Lappartient:
“Suddenly we have weeks with five or six races within seven days. We will first wait until March to see which races have been cancelled. And then we decide to reorganize the calendar. In any case, we have the position that everything that can be driven is also driven.”
Cycling dates: This is what awaits us in February
Despite some cancellations, we can look forward to cycling races in February. We look at all those events which - as of now - can be held.

WorldTour start at the end of February
If the races in February can be held as currently planned, the start of the WorldTour season can already be expected at the end of February. Instead of the Tour Down Under in January, the UAE Tour will kick off. The semi-classic Omloop Het Nieuwsblad is also on the agenda. But we can also look forward to February 3rd. Then an unusually large number of top stars will compete at the Etoile de Bessèges. Among others, the tour winners Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas, as well as time trial world champion Filippo Ganna from the Ineos team have registered. Vincenzo Nibali from Trek - Segafredo, Greg van Avermaet from AG2R - Citroën, Philippe Gilbert from Lotto - Soudal and Pascal Ackermann from Bora - hansgrohe have also announced their attendance.
