Diamond Zouma+ in the test: Powerful and stylish through everyday life

March 12, 2021 by Michael Faiss

Test / E-Bikes: With the Zouma+, Diamant has a versatile e-bike with a powerful motor at an attractive price in its range for this model year.

Attractive price, chic look, large variety of models: At first glance, the Zouma+ from traditional manufacturer Diamant offers everything that a successful e-bike needs to have. The model, which has been tried and tested for several years, is designed as an all-rounder: On the one hand, there is the slim, stylish look that screams urban bike, but at the same time you don't have to do without everyday equipment. As a further special feature, the Zouma+ has also been given a full-blown suspension fork, which lives up to its name and is not overstrained even on easy forest roads.

Even the suspension fork exudes light off-road charm and the same applies to the drive. Here, Diamant relies on the powerful Bosch Performance CX, which with its latest update now offers a whopping 85 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful motors on the market. Of course, you don't always have to use this power; Thanks to the four different support levels, you can throttle the motor a bit, which has two advantages. On the one hand, this reduces the background noise; because especially in turbo mode, the compact powerhouse emits a clearly audible hum. On the other hand, this also increases the range and saves battery. This has a capacity of 500 Wh and is integrated in the down tube. If you want, you can also install the long-range 625 Wh variant after purchase, the frame offers enough space for this. If that's still not enough for you, you can even attach a Range Booster additional battery with another 500 Wh to the outside of the frame and increase the capacity to up to 1.125 Wh.

The battery can be easily removed from the side.

But despite the suspension fork and MTB motor - the Diamant Zouma+ is of course mainly at home on paved paths. It's nice that the buyer can choose between three frame shapes. From the comfortable step-through frame to the trapeze model we tested to the classic diamond frame. Each of the three variants is also available in three sizes – exemplary. Everyone should be able to find the right e-bike here. Also noteworthy: The trapeze model we tested offers space for two bottle holders in the frame triangle, which touring fans should be pleased to note.

With its pleasantly wide, high-quality mudguards and minimalist luggage rack, the Zouma is also ideal as a commuter bike. Panniers can be clicked in without any problems - but unfortunately there is no spring flap. The built-in lighting system is functional and does its job inconspicuously and reliably.

The rest of the equipment is cleverly put together and solid. This applies to the 9-speed Alivio gears as well as to the MT200 brakes - both from Shimano. Sure, there are of course more powerful brakes and higher quality drives, but given the attractive price for what's on offer, the selection is very good. On the one hand, because the gearshift offers a fairly wide range despite "only" 9 gears (and the powerful motor is able to compensate for some here) and the MT200 brakes can also grip firmly if necessary. The components are also low-maintenance and robust.

In practice, the Zouma+ is able to shine in two ways in particular: On the one hand, there is the convincing Bosch CX motor, which is not only very powerful, but also has a lot of dynamics and liveliness. The fact that the bike can also be pedaled well with the drive switched off or at speeds over 25 km/h is also thanks to him, since he is completely decoupled here. In addition, the comfort is very good for a bike in this class. In addition to the suspension fork, this is also due to the wide Schwalbe Marathon tires, which also have integrated puncture protection.

The Zouma+ from Diamant is a very versatile and stylish e-bike. Thanks to the powerful drive and high level of comfort, nothing stands in the way of excursions over gravel or forest highways. When it comes to equipment, you have to do without noble components, which is perfectly fine in view of the attractive price - also because Diamant doesn't allow itself any slip-ups when it comes to equipment. Nice!
