Cycling: The Deceuninck team – Quick-Step has once again flexed its muscles. The Belgian team clinched a double victory on the fifth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country. Mikkel Frølich Honoré was able to win ahead of teammate Josef Černý.
Quick-Step: Honore wins ahead of Cerny
Once again, the Deceuninck – Quick-Step team has shown that they are the absolute benchmark in modern road cycling. And victory number 15 this season should be a very special one. Mikkel Frölich Honoré from Denmark won in front of the Czech Josef Cerny – his teammate. Both were part of the breakaway group of the day. Just like the third place Julien bernard (Trek – Segafredo) from France. The duo was able to shake off this as the last companion a few kilometers before the finish. Crossing the finish line then became the Quick Step ceremony. There were no changes in the overall standings today. Brandon McNulty (UAE) continues to wear the yellow jersey.
Day of the Runaways in the Basque Country
Today's fifth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country started in yesterday's destination Hondarribia. From there, the drivers had to cover 160,2 kilometers to Ondarroa. There were three climbs in the third category to overcome, which made the section look much easier overall than the stages of the previous days. After all, a whopping 30 kilometers still had to be completed from the last mountain classification of the day to the finish. The main difficulty lay in anticipating possible wind edges and solving the problems associated with them. Because along the coast a strong wind blew from time to time. So a perfect day for the escapees – and that's how it turned out.
That he godt nok svært ikke at være stolt af det, de danske herrer leverer for tiden!
I think Mikkel Honoré likes that he first overstrength on the 5th stage of the Baskerlandet Rundt, and we can also write at the end of a dansk cykel-sejr on CV'et! Strangers 💥👇 pic.twitter.com/KHqv87ho3P
