Radon Render 10.0 review: silver arrow! And also agile?

13 April 2021 by the editorial office

Test/E-Performance: With the Radon Render, the sender has created a really universal all-mountain enduro with an electric drive. Because with the 160/140mm spring travel and the looooong wheelbase, you can't really pigeonhole the bolide. The first thing you notice is the piercing silver covering the carbon main frame and alloy rear end. The color is reminiscent of the Formula 1 cars with the star. But is the Radon Render 10.0 also (silver) as fast as an arrow and still agile?

With speed through the foliage!

Radon Render 10.0: Features

After initial speculation and joint shop talk, the e-mountain bike was examined more closely. Because the equipment seems to be conclusive, well thought out and not saved in the wrong place. Of course, the high-quality spring elements in the Fox Factory Orange are striking. But in detail, decent circuit components and brakes were installed. But during the first haptic test of the brakes, we immediately noticed the plastic two-finger levers. Four pistons and plastic levers? Let's see how it affects the driving performance, especially since we have had consistently good experiences with the current Magura stoppers.

Levers previously unknown to us actuate the four-piston brake system from Magura

The chassis is quite potent and absolutely high-quality. Thanks to Fox Factory components. The 36 Factory FIT4 3Pos suspension fork with a full 160mm travel is used at the front. The massive standpipes with a diameter of 36mm and the Kashima coating offer high torsional rigidity and the best gliding ability. The potent rear unleashes 140mm of travel and is dampened by the Fox Float DPX2 Factory. Thanks to the versatile adjustment options, both the suspension fork and the damper can be adapted to the individual needs of the driver.

The Radon Render 10.0 is powered by the current fourth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX. Thanks to the optimized eMtb mode and the increased torque of 85 Nm, there is enough power when needed. But even on technical terrain, thanks to the variable response in eMtb mode, there is always enough control on the rear wheel. To get even further, Radon relies on the 625 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, which is fully integrated. The highlight of the battery cover is the elastic band, which guarantees that the plastic shell is held securely in place. All of this, of course, free of vibration and noise!

Everything at a glance: Bosch Kiox
85 Nm and 250 watts provide plenty of thrust and torque.

So that you are not only fast but also safe on the road, Radon relies on mixed tires from Schwalbe. Thanks to the massive lugs of the Schwalbe Magic Mary on the front wheel, the e-mountain bike has a lot of grip even in muddy conditions. In order to get a good ratio of grip and rolling resistance, Schwalbe Big Betty tires are used on the rear wheel. The 29-inch tires with a width of 2,4 inches are mounted on both wheels, and the stable Super Trail carcass is also included.

Sufficient grip, thanks to massive Schwalbe tires.

It is shifted with a Sram Eagle 12-speed combination. An X01 is used as the rear derailleur and the shift lever comes from the GX series, as the components are 100% compatible with each other. an upgrade or downgrade within the Sram Eagle series is also possible at any time.

All in all, the Radon Render is 10.0 very well equipped. Here, a high-quality chassis meets a solid groupset and bite-resistant brakes - and all of that for a price well under 6.000 euros. A real price-performance bargain!

Radon Render 10.0: Geometry

The Radon Render is currently available in three different frame sizes. The sizes M, L and XL cover a driver height from about 168cm to 200cm. The right frame size can vary depending on your preference and step length. Radon has provided a suitable diagram for this:

We have summarized the details of the geometry in a clear table.

MLXL
Stack (Height)617626640
Reach441461478
Head Tube110120135
Seat Tube425455490
Chainstays458458458
Wheelbase121612401263
BB drop282828
Steering angle65,565,565,5
Seat Tube Angle 75,575,575,5

The long wheelbase in combination with the steep seat angle makes the E-Allround mountain bike a climbing artist. The steering angle is downhill-oriented, so the Render cuts a good figure even on really steep terrain.

Radon Render 10.0: On the trail

With a few simple steps, we adjusted the bike to our needs. The individualization of the chassis is very easy and precise in a flick of the wrist or with an Allen key. We really liked the fact that the Fox components aren't overloaded with controllers and wheels, so even inexperienced users can quickly adjust them.

For the fun of it, I like to hit the technical uphill!

Since April does what it wants, there was still snow on the trail and in the higher elevations of the Bavarian Forest there was even a solid blanket of snow. Ideal test conditions for the Radon Render! The test lap takes us about 20 kilometers and 900 meters in altitude over a wide variety of terrain. It is rolled comfortably over asphalt, this is where the narrow middle bar of the Schwalbe Big Betty catches our eye for the first time. Due to the low rolling resistance, it is not only powerful, but also easy on the battery.

We continue on gravel and forest paths to about 700 meters above the snow line uphill. Although this type of path does not often occur, the rear tire quickly closed in the slushy snow and pushing was the order of the day. But thanks to the integrated pushing aid, that wasn't particularly difficult. On a firm snow surface and in the forest floor soaked with meltwater, we did not find any problems and the Big Betty's propulsion was always reliable.

After briefly being lucky on the summit, because that has to be enjoyed extensively on test laps, it was time for the first very technical part of the descent. Here the radon sometimes got in its own way, but never in such a way that it would no longer be fun. Nevertheless, it required a lot of technique and, above all, strength to maneuver the render through the narrow rock and root passages.

But the faster the trail got, the wider the grin became. A real iron, thanks to the sensitive and full rear structure. The designers really did a lot right here!

Only when selecting the components did we notice a small minus point, which we already feared during the "unboxing". A tool-free adjustment is not possible with our test brake and due to the choice of material, the lever gives way noticeably when gripped hard. The brakes would have significantly more braking power, which could be dosed more precisely than it showed us in this test. The two-finger brake handles are a matter of taste, but have many fans. However, it would be possible to change the handle in individual cases at any time and with just a few simple steps. The circuit is convincing, as is the chassis across the board.

We ended the test lap, during which we were mostly in the Turbo and eMTB modes, with a remaining charge level of 45%. Although not really meaningful, it is still a guide value for the endurance of the 625 Wh battery, with which we are quite satisfied.

The technical data sheets and other documents can be found at any time on the RADON SITE with all other Render models, which are available from 4.240 euros.

Fast like the racing cars with the three-pointed star and just as silver. It's only when things get extremely technical and winding that the feeling isn't that of a Formula 1 car. The quite plush rear end swallows up all bumps almost inconspicuously when it becomes necessary, making fast rides on rough terrain extremely safe. The long wheelbase is displeasing in the curvy technical area and you maneuver slightly stilted through the terrain. The Magura MT5 brake stops safely and quickly if necessary, only the brake lever is worthy of tuning on a bike in this category. But that's easy to forget. Because overall the equipment of the Render-E 10.0 was extremely positive. Because the high-quality Fox chassis shines in all areas and makes the bike a purchase recommendation with an excellent price-performance ratio.
