Thomas Pidcock takes victory at Nove Mesto

The already demanding route in Nove Mesto became even more difficult due to the rain of the last few days. Although the sun came out from time to time on Sunday, this did not change the slippery and muddy conditions. Schurter, Cink, van der Poel, Flückiger and Pidcock got off to a good start and ensured a high pace right from the start of the race. The young Englishman Thomas Pidcock launched the first big attack in the race and immediately gained a decisive lead. Behind them, a duo with Mathieu van der Poel and Mathias Flückiger was able to break away from the rest of the chasing group. Last year's mountain bike U23 world champion didn't let the lead go away and thus secured his very first World Cup victory in the elite class. In less than a month, on June 13th, the 2021 Mountain Bike World Cup in Austria will start its third round.
