Cadex 36 Disc: A wheelset for the highest demands

25 May 2021 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With the Cadex 36 Disc, the high-end component and wheel manufacturer is expanding its portfolio with a super-light and versatile wheel set. This comes with just 1302 grams per wheelset and is supposed to show impressive stiffness values.

With the introduction of its 36 disc wheels, the high-performance manufacturer Cadex is providing a powerful climber that not only impresses with its 1302 grams per set, but also offers a first-class stiffness-to-weight ratio. The carbon wheelset should therefore be particularly convincing on the mountain and when accelerating quickly. With a rim height of 36mm, the Cadex 36 Disc wheelset is not the most aerodynamic, but it is less susceptible to side winds and easy to handle.

Various innovative technologies were used in the development of the Cadex 36 Disc wheels in order to be able to offer the riders the best. The so-called Dynamic Balanced Lacing (DBL) technology ensures rapid acceleration and a razor-sharp, snappy handling. The reinforced carbon layup of the wheel and the high-strength carbon aero spokes ensure drivetrain stiffness that is said to perform 40% better than comparable wheel sets from the competition.
In addition, a low-friction R1-C30 hub is used, which should run extremely easily with high-quality ceramic bearings. According to the manufacturer, there is 1,5 times less friction. With an internal rim width of 22,4mm, the Cadex 36 Disc wheelset provides a solid base for high volume tires for today's high volume tires,

“When we set out to create the new 36 Disc, our intent was to create a wheel that riders would choose for their biggest days on the bike. The 36 leverages much of the cutting-edge technology found in our other hookless wheel systems but the shallower depth and larger internal width combined with the addition of ceramic bearings results in greater versatility, performance and efficiency for riders who face a wider variety of climbs and conditions on an all-day ride.” – Jeff Schneider, Head of Product and Marketing at Cadex

Cadex 36 Disc Wheelset Features

  • Hookless rim design with continuous carbon structure: Offers a more durable rim construction as well as the best flow transition from tire to rim sidewall, resulting in less aerodynamic loss.
  • Aero carbon spokes: A specially developed aeroform should have aerodynamic properties,
combine outstanding stability in changing winds and the lowest possible weight.
  • Dynamic Balanced Lacing: The spokes are tuned to be optimally tensioned under dynamic pedaling force, as opposed to static forces, resulting in greater transmission stiffness and efficiency.
  • Low Friction Hub with Ceramic Bearings: Precision machined internals eliminate excessive bearing loading, reducing bearing friction and minimizing rolling resistance.
  • Reinforced carbon layup: High-strength carbon fibers are reinforced only in the critical areas to
to achieve industry-leading stiffness and strength without adding unnecessary weight.

The Cadex 36 Disc will be available from select retailers mid-August. The set costs 2599,80 euros (front/rear – 1199,90/1399,90).

More than Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
