Cycling: Tom Dumoulin has decided not to give up his bike just yet. The Dutchman will celebrate his comeback at the Tour de Suisse in June.
Dumoulin returns after his break
He still hasn't had enough! Tom Dumoulin will be preserved for professional cycling. His team Jumbo – Visma announced on Twitter today that the 30-year-old will return to the peloton at the Tour de Suisse. The Tour of Switzerland begins on June 6th with an individual time trial in Frauenfeld and ends on June 13th in Andermatt. Because Tom Dumoulin has not yet contested a single race this calendar year, this will also be the start of the season. The Dutchman was last active at the Vuelta a Espana in October, but was unable to compete in the eighth stage. He then took a break from cycling to find out if he still had the urge. In this regard, he now seems to have found an answer to the question for himself.
One of the most successful professionals of his generation
The cycling scene will be happy about that Tom Dumoulin doesn't want to end his career just yet. Because the Dutchman is one of the most successful professionals of the current generation. He had his strongest year in 2017, when he won the Giro d'Italia and the BinckBank Tour, among others, and became world champion in individual and team time trials. Just one year later he finished second in the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the World Time Trial Championships. After that it went downhill for him, so that he appeared more as a noble helper due to injuries and illnesses. His change from a pure time trial specialist to a classification driver is reminiscent of the development of Bradley Wiggins.
