With the Breezer Powerwolf, the Californian manufacturer presents an SUV for every use and for every gender. Wide tyres, an optional low entry and a comfortable geometry make the Powerwolf an ideal companion for everyday use.
Who does not know it?! The cold season is coming to an end and spring seems to be in full swing. There is almost nothing nicer than going for a ride on your bike and visiting the ice cream parlor in the neighboring town. Or maybe you just want to leave the car behind and ride an e-bike to work and enjoy the fresh air. On the way home, stop by the supermarket and do the shopping. SUV e-bikes now make it possible to deal with many everyday situations without a car.
Thanks to the wide and deep tires, the sporty bikes are suitable for use on forest and forest paths and, thanks to the luggage rack, allow you to easily stow away luggage and bags for the way to work or to the supermarket.
With the Powerwolf EVO 1.1 Plus SM, Breezer seems to offer a well-rounded overall package that is exciting for both him and her due to the different frames.
Clean design with practical features
The Californians made two of the new Powerwolf models available to us. The Breezer Powerwolf EVO 1.1 Plus SM came in a simple dark green and with a high top tube. The LS model was delivered in a striking red and with a practical deep entry.
If you share a bike with your partner, you can also use the ST unisex version, where the top tube is slightly higher than the LS model mentioned above, but still allows you to get off easily through the frame.
luggage racks and fenders
An SUV wouldn't live up to its name if it didn't have useful features. The well thought-out luggage rack not only has the classic spring clamp but also comes with a Rack Time Snap-IT platform.
"Rack Time Snap-IT platform?" you ask yourself!? This system has standardized tubes that allow the assembly of common bicycle bags with a suitable quick-release fastener. Brands such as Ortlieb have a full line of compatible bags with quick release buckles and other convenient mounting options.
If you are on the road, you have to be seen. Breezer offers a remedy here with the rear light integrated in the luggage rack and the Lezyne Hecto light mounted on the handlebars.
With our two test models, we were not only on the road and asphalt paths. There were also some gravel and forest trails on the way to the ice cream shop. Thanks to the generously cut aluminum fenders, our clothes stayed clean and dry.
Comfortable geometry for touring and excursions
After the first few meters on the Breezer Powerwolf, it becomes immediately clear that this e-bike is designed for long tours. The upright seating position is combined with a suitable top tube length and a comfortable stem/handlebar construction and never feels uncomfortable even on longer trips.
If the high top tube of the EVO 1.1 Plus SM bothers you, you can fall back on two other models. The EVO 1.1 Plus SM LS has a low entry that makes getting on and off very comfortable through the middle of the frame. If you want to share the e-bike, you can also use the unisex ST variant - here the entry is not quite as deep as with the LS model.
The equipment: Everything an SUV needs?
The equipment is similar to the geometry - sit on it and feel good. The comfortable Selle Royal Essenza saddle never feels uncomfortable even on longer rides and, in combination with the upright seating position, has a lot of touring potential.
Breezer pays attention to the details of the Powerwolf models. As already mentioned, the EVO 1.1 Plus SM not only has large mudguards, front and rear lights, but also a well thought-out luggage rack structure.
Of course, the necessary reflectors and a bell should not be missing for roadworthiness. We want to stick to the StVo and be safe on the road.
The engine: lots of power with simple integration
The most important thing about an e-bike is of course the motor and the battery. The development of assisted bicycles has progressed extremely quickly in recent years and more and more people are enjoying the fast and sporty vehicles.
The fourth generation of the Bosch Performance CX is installed in the Breezer Powerwolf EVO 1.1 Plus SM bicycles. This Bosch motor supports you with a power of up to 85Nm and a top speed of 25km/h.
The Bosch motor is combined with an elegantly integrated Bosch Power Tube 625Wh battery. This is located in the down tube of the frame and can be charged with a 4a charger. The battery can be easily removed for charging and is secured with a lock in the frame.
The display also comes from Bosch and has an easy-to-read field of view on which the speed, kilometers driven and battery status can be displayed.
Chassis and other components
Anyone who has ever sat on an electric bicycle knows how quickly the wheels accelerate. That's why it's all the more important to install a brake that can be easily dosed. Breezer relies on the 4-piston MT420 disc brake with 3-finger brake lever from Shimano. The MT420 has a very pleasant braking power that is easy to dose and easy to use even for inexperienced drivers.
If you should be off the streets and bike paths, the Suntour MOBIE45 fork helps on rough ground. The 100mm absorb smaller impacts and let the Powerwolf roll quickly over forest and gravel paths.
By the way, our two Breezer models roll on 27,5″ wheels. We shifted with the XT switching group from Shimano.
In the following tabs you will find all further details on the equipment of the two models. However, the difference here is only in the frame design – the components remain the same.

On the road with the Powerwolf: The driving impression
Let's get to the most important and exciting part - the driving impression.
As already mentioned, you feel right at home on the Powerwolf. The upright seating position and the large battery make you want to go on long tours.
Thanks to the strong 85Nm Bosch motor, you have enough power in every situation to tackle even the steepest ascent. If you like to go fast, choose the turbo mode. In the Turbo, no inclines are too steep, but it all depends on the capacity of the battery. The trail mode supports a little less - but is completely sufficient in almost any terrain. If you want to give more input and are a bit more sporty, you will be happy about the Eco mode. This mode is the weakest of the three, demands more effort from the rider and consumes the least battery power.
On our way to Eidiele we were also on gravel roads. Here we noticed the coarse and quite wide Schwalbe Johnny Watts tires. Even when we were a little faster on the loose ground, we never had the feeling of slipping. It is also interesting that Schwalbe uses a puncture-resistant rubber compound here - because there is probably nothing more unpleasant than having to mend a flat tire on the go.
The 100mm Suntour fork also performs very well. The air-sprung fork can be easily adapted to the driver with a suitable pump and skilfully absorbs bumps even on rougher paths.
