Raffle: Win a GoPro HERO 9 or a GoPro HERO Max – News: 11 GoPro features you probably didn't know

June 9, 2021 by the editorial office

News / raffle: Action cameras are very trendy and have now established themselves in the cycling community far beyond the professional sector. The GoPro brand is the market leader in the pocket-sized camera segment and, with the new GoPro HERO9 Black, offers a robust and waterproof action camera that can already record 5K videos. Many hobby athletes already know the main functions of these cameras, but the GoPro offers many other mostly unknown functions. To help you capture pro-quality videos and photos, we've created a list of lesser-known camera features and settings.

Win a GoPro Hero 9 or a GoPro Hero Max - we're giving away one of each, you'll find everything else at the end of the article!

1. Automatically upload content from the GoPro to the cloud

At the end of an adventurous day, you plug your GoPro back home to recharge it. The new content is then automatically transferred to the GoPro Cloud by connecting to your favorite WiFi network. You can then easily access your recordings with the Quik app or by logging in via a web browser. You need a to use this function GoPro subscription. You can get more information about the auto upload .

2. Power on and start recording works with a single button press

The easiest way to capture important moments quickly and spontaneously is to use the QuikCapture function on your GoPro. With a simple click of the shutter button, you turn on the camera and video recording starts immediately. Press and hold the shutter button to create a time-lapse video. Press the shutter button again to turn the camera off.

3. Easily mark special moments during recording with HiLight Tags

While recording, press the Mode button to set a HiLight, or simply say "GoPro HiLight." A small orange marker on the video clip icon lets you know that a special moment has been marked.

4. Fancy shots with Ultra Fisheye mode

For optimal use of the Max Lens Mod, the HERO9 Black lens cover would first have to be exchanged for the mod and then the “Max Lens Mod Mode” would have to be activated. However, if you skip the activation step, you can see that the mod creates a fun ultra fisheye filter effect.

5. Produce portrait format videos for TikTok and Instagram

Since TikTok and Instagram are optimized for vertical content, it's a good idea to shoot videos vertically with your GoPro's distinctive wide-angle view in Portrait mode. You can lock the screen orientation to prevent your GoPro from going horizontal again. To do this, simply swipe down and tap the orientation lock icon.

6. Personalize your GoPro with recording presets and on-screen shortcuts

Capture presets allow you to pre-define up to ten custom Protune settings for features like Slo-Mo, Activity, or Night Photo. The same applies to the on-screen shortcuts, where up to four shortcuts can be identified that offer one-tap access to functions such as self-timer or digital objects, among others. Additionally, you can quickly access everything by pressing and holding the settings icon or shortcuts icons.

7. Travel back in time with HindSight

With the HindSight feature, your GoPro HERO9 Black can record up to 30 seconds before you press the shutter button. In the settings menu you have to activate the HandSight function in advance.

8. Change presets quickly and easily with two fingers

By pressing and holding the mode button and shutter button at the same time, you can change presets when the rear display is not accessible. The preset options will then appear on the front display and you can toggle between them by pressing the mode button.

9. Activate exposure lock by tapping on the rear display

The exposure lock on the GoPro helps you to prevent blurry, overexposed videos and underexposed photos. To do this, tap and hold the rear display to reveal the exposure lock square. You can then tap on the area you want to lock the exposure for.

10. Highlight your favorite moments with TimeWarp

To emphasize a particularly beautiful scene, slowing down your TimeWarp recording at this point looks really professional. You can either tap the rear display or press the mode button to do this while recording. Switching to normal speed works the same way.

11. Use the rule of thirds to enhance your images

In order to get a perfectly arranged picture, you can display a grid on the rear LCD display, which allows easy application of the rule of thirds. To do this, swipe down on the rear display and tap the grid icon on the main menu
