Cycling: Primoz Roglic secured the Olympic gold medal in the time trial. Annemiek van Vleuten was successful in the women's race.
Roglic defeats Dumoulin & Dennis
Primois Roglic still has reason to celebrate. The Slovenian can look forward to the Olympic gold medal in the individual time trial after a botched Tour de France and a weak road race. After 44,2 kilometers he was the fastest competitor, starting and finishing at the Fuji International Speedway. With his time of 55:04 he referred the Dutchman Tom Dumoulin and the Australian Rohan Dennis by 61 and 62 seconds to second and third place respectively. The fight against the clock ended bitterly for Stefan Kung. The Swiss was unlucky fourth and missed bronze by just 0,4 seconds. Maximilian schachmann was 15th as the best German and was already almost 3:30 behind.

Van Vleuten really wins gold this time
This time rightly allowed with the ladies Annemiek van Vleuten to cheer. The Dutchwoman completed the 22,1-kilometer course with start and finish at the Fuji International Speedway in a time of 30:13, clearly the fastest. Silver went to the Swiss Marlene Reusser in front of the Dutch woman Anna van der Breggen who were already a whopping 56 or 62 seconds behind the winner. The German Lisa Brennauer came in strong sixth, like in the road race two days ago. At that time, Annemiek van Vleuten was still happily thinking about the gold medal when she crossed the finish line. However, she had to be satisfied with silver, as the Austrian Anna Kiesenhofer had already crossed the finish line. Now the 38-year-old from the Netherlands can really be happy about gold.
