Cycling: Stefan Küng secured the gold medal in the time trial at the European Road Championships in Italy. The Swiss surprised local hero Filippo Ganna and the numerous Italian fans.
Küng 8 seconds faster than Ganna
Actually, the Italian was valid Filippo Gana as the top favorite for today's victory in the individual time trial of the European Road Championships. But the Swiss Stefan Kung put a spoke in the wheel for the local hero. With a lead of 8 seconds he secured the gold medal - and thus defended his title from the previous year. Bronze goes to the Belgian Remco Evenepoel. Germany Max Walscheid was behind the Swiss Stephen Bissegger fifth on the 22,4 kilometer course. Switzerland is celebrating its second gold medal today, after Marlene Reusser had previously won the women's time trial.
