MaguraCT: New disc brake for city, all-road and MTB

September 7, 2021 by Andrew Waldera

Product news: With the Magura CT, the Swabian brake specialist presents a new disc brake for city, all-road and light MTB use. The high level of maintainability of the model should particularly appeal to commuters and leisure drivers. In connection with the "MAGURA E-Bike optimized" components, the brake can also be optimized for e-bike use.

The latest throw from Magura is specially designed for all-road and easy terrain. The area of application of the Magura CT ranges from urban use to trekking and moderate mountain biking. For this purpose, the brake specialist combines field-proven components with new developments. Magura uses the well-known 2 and 4-piston brake calipers of the MT model series for the brake calipers. The Magura CT is offered in three versions. Depending on the application, the buyer can choose between the CT5 with 4-piston brake calipers, the CT4 with 2-piston brake calipers and the CT4 FM with Flatmount brake calipers.

The axial encoder made of Carbotecture, a reinforced high-tech polymer that is extremely impact and tear-resistant despite its low weight, has been completely redeveloped. The Carbotecture master cylinders have been installed in the masters of the MT and HS model series for many years. In addition, the new Magura CT has an enlarged reservoir, which is intended to reduce the potential occurrence of air in the system circuit and ensure long-term trouble-free operation. As with all Magura brakes, the environmentally friendly "Royal Blood" mineral oil is used as the braking medium in addition to the "Easy Bleed Technology".

In order to cope with the higher loads of e-biking, Magura offers an optional "e-bike optimized" kit. The kit consisting of SPORT brake pads and stiffened MDR-P or MDR-C brake discs is intended to prevent premature wear and also guarantee permanently constant braking performance on electrically assisted bicycles. Depending on the area of use, the brake can be equipped with either a 2- or 3-finger brake lever, and the brake lever can be changed individually. The new product is now available on selected bicycle models, and sales of the aftermarket models are planned for early 2022. Depending on the model, the Magura CT will then be priced between 129,90 and 169,90 euros.
